GUN CARRY CASE @Rs.700/-

Post by spslfa » Wed Jun 09, 2010 10:36 pm

hello friends,
since there is no good gun carry case available, i designed one. (the rexin for the outer cover was of Rs.300/-, stiching cahrges was another 150/- and the thermocol and fevicol SR were rs.150 and 50 respectively.) it is very simple.

i first made a rexin cover of 118 cm X 8 cm X 20 cm with the help of a local upholstery worker with zip on the horizontal side. then brought 1.25 metre thermocol sheet of 12 mm (approximately 1/2 inch) thickness. (the thermocol is of flexible plastic type and which comes in rolls with a width of app.1.5 metre. it is available in hardware/rexin shops). from the sheet, i cutted 7 pieces in the said dimension. each piece is in 12 mm thickness. out of 7, five pieces were sticked together with fevicol SR, by placing one piece on the other. then i drawn the outline of my gun with the help of a sketch pen on the block and cutted through the outline with a sharp cutter to make a groove to perfectly accommodate the gun.(depth of the groove was 36 mm). now i placed the block (which is 5 layer now) in the rexin cover. now the carry case is ready. place the gun in the groove, keep the remaining block (two layered) over it, zip it.

the gun is tightly holded by the thermocol since it is exactly fit in the rexin cover. it will not shake or jerk. sight settings will be safe. (the thickness of the thermocol block is now 12mm x 7 = 84 mm. but the rexin case is having 80 mm thickness and hence the thermocol box will be tight fit in the bag.) i also made a groove to keep the pellets too, in the free space. please follow the link to view pictures. i love to hear your comments on it.

Hi spslfa,

Your gun case looks very sophisticated as shown in the picture. You could perhaps include slightly more space for the gun, mounted with a scope. Good job indeed. :)

Just one question. Why did you use thermocole instead of hardened sponge which also comes in rolls. Thermocole is extremely brittle and will break/ fragment the the first time the case is accidently bent or folded.

hello atanu,

since it was my first attempt, in fact i forgot about the space for a scope. defenitely i can improve the finishing of inner packing next time.

for the question you asked, in fact we might be talking about the same thing, that is, even if the shop keeper call it thermocole, it is not thermocole. it is plastic in nature, sponge in feel and never break or brittle. it is highly flexible just like sponge or plastic sheet . it is also water resistant and non absorbent. but defenitely rigid than normal sponge. may be it is hardened sponge. i dont know the correct nmae of it. this material is widely using in upholstery work, mainly for seats of vehicles. also using as pakcings to electronic equipments like tv etc.

thanks

HI spslfa,

If its not that white theremocole, then it is perfect. I think what you have used is the hard/ compressed sponge material, which is good.

Would you like to change the dimensions suitably to include a scope and also a pellet pouch ( as recommended by Brihacharan) and post a diagram of the same for all of us.

Thanks a lot,

Atanu

Good job, I'm always impressed at ingenuity. I remember when this board was still on Yahoo, Mack The Knife used to get some gun cases made. I'm sure you can partner with him to improve the cases in design, function, materials, etc...

Good stuff!

Considering this is your first time trying it, it makes it all the more impressive! It doesn't look amateurish at all! Good job :)
