Re: imported guns
Wixler...you're getting off to an odd start here. You must have some babu genes if a all the explanations above don't get into your head.
To put things simply:
1. The only manufacturer of civilian handguns (Pistols/revolvers/rifles) under current government policy is the IOF.
2. Private parties are not allowed to manufacture anything other than the following:
(a) SBML (Single barrel Muzzle Loader)
(b) DBML (Double barrel Muzzle Loader)
(c) SBBL (Single barrel Breech loader) 12 Bore Shotgun
(d) DBBL (Double Barrel Breech Loader) 12 Bore Shotgun - Side by Side or Over and Under
(e) Airguns
3. Any other 'imported' pistol would mostly have been imported before the 1986 Import Ban
OR
4. Government Auction of confiscated pieces to big dealers or government big shots and politicians.
OR
5. Allocation of confiscated NSP Pistols to defense personnel
OR
6. Renowned competitive shooters who are allowed to import arms specific to their sport.
The Arms Rules 1962 (and amendments thereafter) lists prohibited bores as:
-All fire arms capable of firing service ammunition
-All semi automatic arms in any bore other than pistols
-All long arms having a barrel shorter than 20 inches
-A number of specific types of weapons and potential weapons.
The Desert Eagle .50AE doesn't fall in this category so its non- prohibited but sorry bhai, you cannot import it anyway ... nor would any one with half a brain do so in India when even common ammo is so expensive and often hard to get.
Most other 'imported' NPB hand guns available, would be pre-1986. Though they are often touted as brand new or 'mint' (as many country folks like to describe), most would be second hand, third , fourth or even further... brilliantly refurbished. Most of these are available at dealers around the country at apocalyptic price ranges.
regards,
cc

grewal sir is right !!grewal wrote:First of all you need to have a valid Arms license , you can buy a handgun from an Arms Dealer. You can buy imported handguns from these Arms Dealer , although they will be second hand weapons . All imported prior to 1984. . You can choose from variety of Brands, type of weapons and from different sizes of bores. The choice is unlimited. But first get a license.

Re: imported guns
Hello Gentlemen,
I have a few questions, that I believe you veterans of the forum and the gun-world can help me with.
1) Among these 'new' pre-84 weapons that dealers have, has anybody come across a 10 mm Auto chambered weapon? Say a Glock 20, or a Bren Ten, or a Cold Delta Elite?
2) Is import of ammunition allowed?
3) Under what circumstances can a weapon purchased abroad (lets say its been used 2 yrs or so already) be imported into India. I'm talking all legit stuff of course.

Take the trouble to read older posts and you will find answers to your queries.mhr_srbh wrote:Hello Gentlemen,

Re: imported guns
Why is it that all the young people just want to own the largest handgun on this earth. Where as it is more important to be physically more fit than to be armed with more destructive power. Neither they want to put in any effort in reading the old posts and get maximum knowledge from the already extensively discussed topics on this forum. Everyday we encounter the same kind of query, " Can we import Desert Eagle or 10mm auto or god know what". No body want's to put in any effort. We people are still struggling to put our hands on 9mm's and they want 10mm straight awaymhr_srbh wrote:has anybody come across a 10 mm Auto chambered weapon? Re: imported guns
i would say that first check the date when the glock 20 came out before asking questions. its like asking if before the ban are there any Lazar ray guns in India?

Re: imported guns
Given that the 10mm Auto was introduced in 1983 it would be very highly unlikely that you would find a Bren Ten.
Keeping on topic about 10 mm... ever fired one? The recoil while not exceessive needs a lot of getting used to, in order to keep the gun under control.
Why the facination with a Glock? Ever used one? Glocks IMHO are made with tolerances that would make IOF proud. They are popular mainly due to being relatively inexpensive.

@MOA
Sir although I have fired glock 17 and 19 and still dont like either of them as I didnt find anything excitingly new about them [ and maybe cause it cost 250k-300k PKR here] still from what I have gathered about IOF pistols glock is way better but thats just my humble opinion...
kindly elaborate about the tolerances thing that you mentioned so that the less learned folks here can benefit from your knowledge..

Re: imported guns
it doesn't take a genius to figure out whether an asian pistol will be better than an European one.
you can buy a colt pistol but the price normally is atrocious, so if you have deep pockets go ahead.
