Application for Arms License (Some Queries)

Dear All,
I am Viney Rao, a Management Graduate and presently, I am working as a Deputy Manager with one of a prestigious government national institution. The basic nature of my job involves venturing out into rural areas even at odd times. Therefore i wish to apply for an arms license (Pistol).

My hometown is in Jaipur (Rajasthan) and I am presently posted at Nanded (Maharashtra) and my job is frequently transferable. Also, my organisation is not ready to render any support to me in my application for arms license.

Some of the queries which i would like to get clarified from the owner or the users of this forum are:
1. Please brief me about the whole procedure of application and the way i should approach it.
2. From where should i apply for arms license (I mean from Jaipur or from Nanded, Maharashtra)
3. Is the reason specified by me would suffice to obtain me an arms license
4. Since my job is transferable , would i be able to carry arms throughout the country?

and every state have different rules, and procedures...
at first, like passport, an arms license, has to be applied & processed from the place of your birth.., now, after obtaining the licence form, from required authority, you will get the list of requirement's, and also very important question, (why you need license ?), pls have that detail ready....

Thanks for ur response. Can u detail me a bit further about the process may be say in Rajasthan. The reason or use as mentioned in my earlier post is self defense as i have to venture out in rural and remote areas at odd timings as a part of my work. I just wanted to ask whether that would be enough for getting me issued an small arm license ?

I disagree, arms license has nothing to do with place of birth, instead it is based on place of residence(for all practical purposes it means the place for which you have "proof of residence" with you and also the neighbors will tell the visiting police officer that you reside there, have good conduct etc. etc.). Arms licenses are given for self protection/self defense which is a corollary to Right to Life guaranteed to every person by Constitution, therefore legally even foreigners when in India are allowed to have arms license for self defense.
