Friends,

I would like to offer my hearty congratulations to Jaspal Rana and if Abhijeet agrees, then to extend them on behalf of IFG to one of India's finest young shots. I would like to congratulate him as well for his outspokenness on behalf of all law abiding gun enthusiasts in India. The latter makes his victory even more sweet to me as a gun owning Indian.

Beers on me this weekend to whoever could join! 8)

Congratulations to Rana.Love him for saying things most Indian shooters are too scared to voice.

http://www.indianexpress.com/story/18176.html

“I haven’t decided on a place and time yet,” Rana told The Indian Express, “and not that I have made any plans regarding the nitty-gritties either, but I will probably be running for an Uttaranchal assembly seat at the next general elections.”

It’s bad news for Indian shooting, though. “His interest has wavered, he is thinking of it (politics) more and more, and I guess India will miss a good shooter at the top. I think he is the best talent in this category in the world — in the near future,” said national coach Sunny Thomas.

Why politics? “Because in public life it will be better than the bad politics of sport. At least there I will be sure who my enemies are and who my friends are. In Indian sports you know nothing,” said Rana. I have to fix some people. My father and I have given a lot in the last 16 years, and have received nothing in return.”

Strong words, but that’s how Rana would want to talk. At the Main Press Centre of the Games, word was spreading about the impending world record equalling feat of Rana. Indian Olympic Association secretary general Randhir Singh was around. When this correspondent asked Singh to go to the range and give a boost, he said “yes, chalo, abhi”. At the Lusail shooting range Rana would not believe it. “He won’t come, you see,” Rana told this correspondent. Till such time that Rana had finished his dope test Singh had not arrived.

Not that this proves anything, but how much more important than the athlete is the sport itself? What constitutes the basis of the sport at any level? Why do the Ranas always talk against the system? Is it just that it fetches many more column centimetres imprint and more time on telly?

“They don’t see me as a shooter, successful or not,” says Rana.“They see me as a problem, as the problem, simply because I always speak my mind. Sujit Bhar

Jaspal Rana heartiest congratulations to him, to achieve so much with so little support.

He is all praises for certain Mr BS Sethhi of NRAI and NRAI.
Rana fires verbal volley
Decries inadequate facilities for Indian shooters

New Delhi, December 9
Returning home to a hero’s welcome from the Asian Games, triple gold medallist Jaspal Rana today said his performance as well as that of other Indian shooters could have been much better had they been provided with adequate facilities in the lead-up to the mega event.

Rana, who is planning to join politics, also minced no words in stating that shooters would “not tolerate” if their grievances were not heard in future. “I have won the medals despite all odds like lack of coaching and ammunitions, so these factors don’t count for me anymore. Other shooters have also done well this time despite the poor facilities. But I won’t tolerate similar treatment to our shooters in future,” said Rana, who was taken in by surprise by the rousing welcome at the IGI airport.

Rana won individual gold medals in 25 m men’s standard and centre fire pistol events while leading the team to gold and silver medals, respectively, in the two events. The Indian shooters won as many as 14 medals compare to just two silver medals at the last edition in Busan.

The 30-year-old said the Indians could have won 10-12 gold medals and not just three if they were given enough facilities.

“Today, with limited facilities we have attained this glory. We have missed some gold medals by decimals but with good coaching we could have returned with 10-12 gold medals instead of three,” he said.

Rana, who was suffering from fever and dizziness during the competition, said the Sports Authority of India and the government could not be credited with his success.

“There was no help from the SAI or the government but the National Rifle Association of India and coach Sunny Thomas stood by me all along.

“When I was down with fever, the coach and NRAI General Secretary BS Sethi gave me the moral support to compete,” said Rana, who fetched the first Asian Games shooting gold medal for India in 12 years.

“The federation has blind faith in me. They said I have the fire in me to make it possible. I was not well but then I decided to concentrate on my technical aspect,” he added.

Planning to join politics, Rana is planning to take a break by skipping the Nationals beginning on December 14 in Indore.

Asked what was his next target, he said, “The Olympics”, although his pet event 25 mt standard and centre fire pistol are not part of the Olympic Games. —

Hi Guys
Its a little late , but I never been to this part of the forum.

I was also witness to all the frackus happening there
This included all the jokers who run the sport as well as all other Indian sport.
When you look at their faces, you realise how pompous they are.
I am almost come to abusive language which will not be tolerated on this forum.
Cheers to all who got medals

P.S. I am a proffessional photographer, so any help in this regard will be extended, but I started plinking before I got to know the ABC's of photography
