Hi,
My daughter has the all India inter school competition scheduled in Nalanda, Bihar and we need to travel along with the gun and kit. She started shooting in April this year and this is thd first time we will be traveling for competition. How do folks travel with guns for competitions? Are they allowed on flights? And if so, am assuming it will have to be checked in. How safe is that? Looking for guidance on this.
Thanks.

Also, what about trains? And would the kid (competitor) also have to travel with the air rifle or can I take it in the train alone as well? Thanks

I am glad to hear that she has such a supportive father. Did she join a shooting club? Does she have a valid shooting ID?

Travelling by train won't be a problem with proper ID and competition entry/invitation.

Air tanky should be depressurised(empty) in case of flight. Proper checking in and declaration etc is needed with the flight.

Common:
1. Get a weapon carry letter from NRAI, it’ll cost something around Rs350/-.
2. Print the competitor card, match notification and a POA.

For flights:
1. Empty the cylinder fully, and pack securely.
2. Present the documents mentioned above at the checkin counter.
3. Usually the weapon weight and handling charges get exempted, sometimes after some arguing.
4. As for the shooting kit, things are sketchy some exempt some take extra weight charges.

For Rail:
Isn’t much to say as air rifles don’t need a license and if asked, show the above mentioned documents.

Also mention the number of pellet tins you are carrying in the weapon carry letter. All the tins must be placed in the weapon carrying case.
