HI! just read at the NRAI site that from this year onwards there will be no civilian match category in the NSCC in order to facilitate imports by shooters who shoot mqs in the NSCC as per new regs. Well I guess playing with the biggies will force the civvies to brush up their skills

Thats bad news. I were planning to take part this year. Maybe next year.

If the idea was to invite more people to competition shooting, and to let more participants have international quality guns then this is absolutely wrong on part of NRAI. THis decision if true must be reversed by some lobbying, representation, delivery of letter.

HI! folx let me put things in perspective here:
In the national we had two categories of matches :
1. National Championship: this was a open match and all the services (Army , Navy , airforce etc etc. , international shooters, RSPB , ONGC, Air India (public sector ent. teams) and any civilians could compete. The civilians have a clear cut disadvantage in this match as they are competing with shooters who are ususally supplied arms and ammo by their employers (govt. of India or psu's) and even foreign or Indian coaches. If u had to import then u had to come in the top twenty five in this category to be a renowned shot. Now this will be the only category in the Nationals.

2. Championship: this category has now been done away with . The participants in this category were civilians, police forces, paramiltaries, RSPB, (PSU teams) except the services ( army , navy, airforce) . This category offered a good chance for beginers to start out and also for the good budding shooters to bag a medal or so. the participants of this event were not alloed to import . However this event offered casual civilian shooters with limited means to compete and enjoy the sport at a realistic index as per the facilites available to them. All countries have events such as this so that civilain shooters interest in the nationals is kept alive and they have a chance at some glory too amongst themselves. Scrapping this event means that the strangle hold of the services on the sport will increase which is not a good thing for the sport. I hope this category is carried on as a all-India shooting meet or something similar.

If anyone who shoots the minimum qualifying scores in the Nationals is entitled to import a target firearm. What difference would it make if a shooter took part in the open or civilian category (National Championship or Championships) since becoming a 'renowned shot' is based on score & not 'top twenty five' ranking.

From the NRAI website. “Civilian” category removed from NSCC program

The Governing Body of NRAI, in its meeting held on July 16, 2007, decided to remove the civilian category from the program of NSCC. This was done in view of the government decision to allow all the participants of NSCC to import arms/ammunition subject to achieving the minimum qualifying scores.

I think its short sighted of the NRAI to remove the 'civilian' or 'Championship' category from NSCC. The boys will now have to compete with the Men.

Thats the problem. A number of civilians with hope to develop theur shooting skills further with access to better quality guns after mqs will now be denied a chance.

Everybody does not practise skeet and trap twice a week due to business or economic reasons.
