IFG Online 10m Competition

The rules for the competition are as follows:
10 shot group at 10 metres (not yards!) in the unsupported standing position.
1) Air-Rifle / Air-Pistol in 0.177" or 0.22" calibre.
2) Recoiling or Non-Recoiling.
5 mm penalty for non-recoiling class.
3) Sighting mechanism: Open sight / Diopter Sight / Scope.
5 mm penalty for using a diopter or scope sight.
4) Indian or Imported:
5 mm penalty if using an imported air-rifle or air-pistol.
5) For 15 year olds and below:
There is a 5 mm bonus.
All participants are required to grade their own cards.
Group size to be mentioned as a centre-to-centre measurement in millimetres. For those who don't know how to do this, measure the longest distance across your group and then deduct the calibre. For instance, if you shoot a 10 shot group admeasuring 25mm with a 4.5mm calibre airgun, then deduct 4.5 from 25. This will give you a centre-to-centre group size of 20.5mm.
Please remember to
add the penalty points, if any, to your c-t-c group size. Children who are 15 years or below should
deduct 5mm from their group size but must add the penalty points if required.
Here's an example of what a typical IFG Postal Competition target would look like.
Scores for the trial run to be submitted by 12:00 p.m. 14th May 2007 on this thread. Feel free to add pics of your groups.
When posting your results, please mention whether it is for an Indian or Imported rifle or pistol, the calibre used, the sighting mechanism and the c-t-c group size before and after adding the penalties, if any.
Have fun!

Mack The Knife,
Since Mark's children are going to participate, why not your boys as well?
And, for other members, if you have children, why not get them to participate?
I am all for the 18 cut off if you feel that that is what it should be, BTW.
Cheers!

Mehul,
I don't have a rifle or pistol that is small or light enough for them. Plus they really haven't been taught how to shoot yet.
One option would have been letting them shoot with an air-soft and I bought each of them a really nice battery operated one but they have gone and broken both.
Let's just keep it at 15 for the moment. We can always make changes if needed.

Hi Anupam,
I had no idea Savage made airguns. Assuming this is Savage from the U.S. and not some Calcutta make, I would like to see what it looks like.
Shoot the trial run even if you miss the cut-off date by a few days.

Hey guys,
First of all, I must admit, i took only 5 shots, not knowing that I had to take 10 shots..what the heck I had taken the pic and all, so thought let me post it..i'll take another 10 shots after this post.
so here it is...
with all the penalties applicable to me..
The c-t-c should be {27.1+5(recoil-less)+5(diopter)+5(imported)}-4.5(caliber)
so here with 5 shots I could get 37.6 mm.....
Of course the shots off hand, distance must be about 10 mts..a bit here and there perhaps..
the Rifle is a FWB 300s.
Cheers
Ranjeet

Hey Guys,
now with the 10 shots the c-t-c has opened up enough to make all you look like great shots....so don't shy away post ur results
Here's mine....never realised I was this bad....
Total c-t-c =[39.3+5(non-recoiling)+5(diopter)+5(imported)]-4.5(caliber)
= 49.8mm
Definately not Olympic material...
..but as they say "participation is what counts"
Rifle used FWB 300S, distance approx 10m
Cheers

Ranjeet,
The reason for that large 10-shot group is that you goofed up.
The front insert on a 10 metre match air-rifle has an aperature that is anything from 3.90 to 4.20 mm in diameter. Yours is most probably 4 mm. There is no way in hell that you could have got the black of the bull within the front sight aperature at 10 metres and thereby defeating the purpose of an aperture sight.
Try again tomorrow. This time, either use a 10-metre air-rifle target or draw a black circle that is 30.5 mm in diameter (30 or 31 mm will also do) and use that as your aiming mark.
Mack The Knife
P.S.: Make sure you shoot from exactly 10 metres. That is, your leading foot does not touch the line.
Try and reduce the pic size as well, so that one does not need to scroll horizontally. Thanks.
