Why worry ? Let them watch the CWG and then the upcoming Olympics, it will drive away all their problems.

as it is, India is a prime target for BBC and the world media, (you might care to remember they blamed us for Kargil!!!!). we are always the silly poor sods who can't think for themselves and need their direction. are we not falling into their usual trap of ridiculing ourselves?

i think this thread has gone back to the old indian past time of pseudo intellectual wan@$ing. the bureaucrats and bosses are jokers, hence they are easy targets. but why didn't WE join the volunteers if we cared so much? by the way, the billions spent are not blown in the wind. any major sporting event in a nation is an advertisement for tourism and business. would you call a half page tata ad in a daily a waste of money?

i know of people who have spent their entire lives promoting sports in india, sometimes fighting the system, sometimes turning it to their advantage. please elaborate what each of you india bashers, particularly those wanting the games to fail have done, and we'll take it from there.

no one is INDIA BASHER here.,people here spoke out of there anguish and frustation on the way the ORGANISING COMMETTE has shamed and let down indians by there mis management and curroption of organising this events which are in the focus of the world..as far a billions being spent on promoting the country..which image do you think the international viewer is struck with in his mind? the undoubtedly grand opening ceremony or the dog shit on the atheletes bed? :? or the bridge collapsing? no body wants these games to fail, and i hope no more shit hits the fan or any bodys bed. :)May india truly shine

Proud of being an Indian, today and of the mesmerising opening ceremony, let's congratulate the people behind the show and hope that all goes well with the rest of games. Guess this goes well with our media too who failed miserably to look at the +ve side.

yesterday, I was myself a witness to CWG village & then the opening ceremony. Today at the range, Also with the international team & there cordionates, Specially Australians "They were using a word again & again "Amazing Arrangement / Security / Food / and indian cordinates response to any complaint" "

I am surprised to read this from you

Do you really think we are INDIA bashers? I really don't know how to respond to this. So voicing opinion against wrong in INDIA is INDIA bashing.

I am paying 30% of my salary in advance to government. I have right to ask where is my damm money is going. I am paying 3k per month for drinking water in so called Silicon valley of INDIA, buggers can't even provide drinking water in one of the biggest foreign exchange earning city in INDIA and 70K crores are being spent on doing shoddy jobs and making mockery of my country and I don’t even have right to voice my opinion?

I suppose all those Delhites were also wrong who booed Kalmadi displaying their dejection. How can they do that without doing anything for the sport?

I think pseudo INDIA lovers sitting in first world countries who think they’ve become biggest deshbhagats just by taking part in INDIAN parades on 15th August need to look into their “Gireban” and keep their gob shut when somebody is talking about the country which they have shun.

Voicing opinion is one thing and perfectly acceptable, hoping the games fail, even before they have started, (which is what the western press appears to really want) so the country is humiliated is another. Have you seen the string of anti India articles that have mushroomed in the foreign press over the last month, not to mention openly racist threads running on online gun forums.

By the way, just because you pay income tax makes you a patriot? That's funny. I've paid taxes longer than you (and still do) to the Indian government. So I suppose I am a bigger patriot. Old master Guptaji who is due to retire next month has paid taxes the longest. He is the biggest patriot in our colony then?

A big chunk of the current foreign exchange reserves that India boasts of is due to pseudo deshbhakts, who invest in the motherland. Incidentally, you might have a bigger need for shutting your gob than me. I am at least reacting to what I have read in this forum, unlike you dreaming of what I am up to in the first world, which, by the way, is actually quite relevant to India. Because if you are to be believed, then Subhas Chandra Bose, Amartya Sen, Mahatma Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Jawaharlal Nehru, Harivanshrai Bacchan, Bhishma Sahni...........in fact, every Indian who has ever spent time abroad is/was a pseudo India lover in a first world country!!! Which means you start distancing India from Subramanium Chandrashekar, Srinivas Ramanujam and Hargobind Khorana.

Borrowing from Marie Antoinette, "If they dont have bread, let them eat cake !"

One of the most famous historical myths in the world.

Marie Antoinette never said that .

Speaking of which, neither did rajiv gandhi ever say to slum dwellers complaining of water shortage to drink Limca.

Oye Hamiclar and Inder,

cool down bhai. Cant believe you both, of all the people are fighting.

Bhai log, bahar walas are a bit more sensitive even for smaller things. Bhai agar yaha we speak badly of motherland, to yaha par bhi deshdrohi. India mein to hai hi deshdrohi. Its like we use the N word against blacks, its racism but they use it all the time amongst themselves.

Aap socho,, aap sab burai karte ho to theek par if bbc or a gora or pakistani says the same thing to kitna bura lagega.

'Shunned the country' Inder bro dont joke esp re: Hamiclar. You know hes giving up a promising shining career to come back to India.

Hamiclar bhai, i can understand the sorrow you feel esp in light of whats written in those forums but bhai aap bhi socho.

They are advertising for tourism? for what?
You have seen the world. One of the least tourist friendly places ever.

Tata advertising is called a clever move because they have quality steel products and cars.

Kamal Khan spending money to advertise deshdrohi claiming he is more popular than Shah rukh is completely different. It is foolish and completewastage of money. But it is his money and he can do whatever he wishes.

This debate is just like the world media saying india and pakistan are crazy to fight a 60 yr war in siachen while all that money could be spent on other stuff but we being patriots say differently ki Bharat mata ke liye kuch bhi karo.

Similarly people are justified in saying money should be spent on roti kapda makan or bijli paani sadak.

Take indian shaadis crores spent on what? 5 din ka tamasha. The world says its crazy, logic says its crazy but we do it. That is also an 'advertisement' of ones social standing.

There will always be 2 sides to this argument.

Just being on a particular side doesnt make one a patriot or a pseudo patriot.

5 yr old: desh kya hai? humein lollypop chahiye.

16 yr old. Pehle pmt/pet nikalo phir desh kisochenge

25 yr old: mnc mein job chahiye.Zyada tax doonga to desh ka zyada bhala hoga

RSS: mnc mein kaam karne se videshi takat badhti hain aur desh kamzor hota hai

visa reject: main deshbhakt hoon .NRI desh drohi

NRI: maine plot khareeda hai india mein foreign exchange bheja hai ; main patriot hoon.

Neta: hum desh ki seva karte hain.

Intellectual: ive read about all great people who travelled abroad and then came back.

99.99% india: patriot to sachin, ganguly, yuvraj dhoni hai.

All have a diff. view point.

A lot of people i met here tell me that patriotism in itself is a govt. sponsored propoganda and is quite big in communist states and socialist states for eg. India.

Singing national anthem/ vande matram etc in school assembly. Deshbhakti geet on all govt holidays and annual functions etc are all an example of that.

In many countries these rituals dont exist.

In a lot of countries not supporting ones national team is not considered bad. For eg. Desis here openly support india in india england matches.

No one tells them ki get out. khaatey humara hai aur gaatey unka hai and people here are surprised to hear that in india, indians who support other countries in cricket are called gaddar/deshdrohi.

Enough of ranting.
gotta go get some shuteye

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

Dev, you are a character :D , but you've got a point.

Inder, no hard feelings. I'm not doubting your sentiments, and was smiling when I read your reply and typed mine. I felt this was going to be the usual disagreement we have among ourselves from time to time, which blow over and end amicably. Let's hope this does as well (and the games too!!!)

ohhhhh faaaarg what a shooting range man. Just waiting till they hand it over to us. And man what shooters we have, no kit, no fancy suits jackets, most times without ammo but still shooters grab the maximum medals. Blasted miracle it is. Most coaches keep insisting on dry fire, dry fire, dry fire...good way to get around the ammo shortage  . Hell I bunked and went to see the shooters. Unfortunately, not getting a ticket made me hear about Abhinav's score outside the stadium. Finally, got a ticket with Amit's help and went in. Got to see the sport pistol gold being won. Thanked Gagan Narang for doing his bit and he just lit up. Tomorrow is the individual events. There are glitches in the web based ticketing but the bank is a fair and easy place to get tickets. Somehow our stadiums are brilliant drove by Nehru Stadium yesterday. Would you believe we even have smiling policemen, who work on even without any water to drink. Plan to watch the aquatics on the weekend, i've finally got the games fever.
To all the sods who walked out and away...bad mistake.
To ride, to speak up, to shoot straight.
