Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.
Hey Dev
I am personally involved in the developemant of the Master shot wad cutters and these have been revamped because Mr Tyagis nephew ia a sports shooter
The pellets in the yellow plastic packets are made of virgin lead which has been imported from britain for this purpose . So there is o harm in using them .
I have a card on which I was testing these pellets at 20 meters with the pistol ( IHP co2 ) clamped and a 10 shot group with the target tacked to the wall ( now why would I specify that BECAUSE when you hit the wall the ricochet of a 4.5 mm projectile measures 6mm is size should have used a target holder . Anyway the surprising thing is that the group was single hole 8mm
The above goes to prove that the pellets are not inaccurate I also used to think so and the local shooting school has got a large stock of these .
The pistol was a unit discarded as useless which i had taken and accurised
Hvj1 sorry to have contradicted you but do like to have the truth come out

Extremely happy to hear that you are involved in the development of the Master SHot and apologise for my unfair comments on their quality. I was not aware of the change.
Doc, A personal request, could you be kind enough to test the pellets over a std distance of 10m, with a pistol held in a vice and offcourse with a std target holder. This would definitely go a long way in establishing the quality of the pellets. Secondly, do kindly ensure that the quality and standards remain the same. The trouble with our labour, handling the actual production process, really dont care either way how the product fares at the end.I have a card on which I was testing these pellets at 20 meters with the pistol ( IHP co2 ) clamped and a 10 shot group with the target tacked to the wall ( now why would I specify that BECAUSE when you hit the wall the ricochet of a 4.5 mm projectile measures 6mm is size should have used a target holder . Please dont be sorry, you have contributed to my knowledge and I am humble enough to know that .Hvj1 sorry to have contradicted you but do like to have the truth come out

A certain amount of tension or nervous energy is necessary to keep the senses razor sharp, unfortunately caliberating the same requires sophisticated machines to be hooked up to you while shooting. In Germany, I have seen, how some of the shooters were hooked up to certain machines, which can be classified as biofeedback monitors. Some simple monitors are available in India, the simplest is the type which can be wrapped around your finger (velcroed) and it provides you your pulse rate while performing specific activity.
But what is it that relaxes us and on the opposite scale aggravate us. We have already discussed the flight or fight response. Now we turn towards a new topic, which is as follows;
Sefl-Talk
1. There is a constant conversation going on inside our heads, a single voice keeps on talking (in the conscious state). This is self-talk and is unique to each individual.
2. Is this self talk, really US, or let me rephrase it, Is my self talk really me?
I REQUEST ALL READERS TO PLEASE PAUSE AND ASK YOURSELF THE ABOVE QUESTION and then PLEASE DO REPLY. This discussion will lead us to some EXTREMELY exciting subjects and DEEPER understanding of our own selves.
So Jitu, Sawbones, Dev, Nmoharir and all my other precious readers, kindly reply.
Best Regards

Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.
Ok I'll go first, i admit there are voices in my head. As i bring the pistol down to the aiming area I'm chanting, "I'm a great shot...the shot will break on its own...foresight clear...target blurred...damn the trigger did not break...abort...abort...abort."
Process begins again, voices are silent, pistol lowers, trigger finger does its thingie...damn that felt good...ten...ten...ten...no eight...voices,"heck but not bad anyway."
Near the 40th shot voices," I am tired...heck look at that quiver...why is the sight floating around? maybe I should put the weights back on. ok...ok...clear foresight...squeeze...thwap... damn! where was the breathing? Damn! the trigger didn't break on its own, the Baikal was better..this damn expensive @##$%%^. Might as well go back and dry fire a hundred times."
Okay now someone else fess up.

I used to teach archery at Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai till a few years ago. One of my first students would always say a few words before she shot her arrow. The words were "Dont forget to laugh". I always wondered why she used those words. During one of our breaks, i asked her this question. She said that she always got tensed and eager to release the arrow, saying these words got a smile to her face resulting in a better shot.
This was one lesson i learnt from my students and it helped me in improving my performance.

Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.
hey hvj my self talk is more on take a deep breath, steady now, dont look at the tgt, follow the arm till the sights come in the tgt area. SA, tgt blurred now now, no too late, arm quivering abort abort or now now squeeze , hold lower. GOD KNOWS where I hit. but the stage between raising the arm and the breaking of the shot sometimes the tension unnecessarily rises and i tend to steal glances at the tgt as the mind foolishly feels that the tgt may vanish as i am focusing on the SA. it is on those days thatit is more abort than shootinng. so now how does one reduce this wavering of the mind due to tension

Hey Jitu shot a 92 yet? Have shot a few cards with it but average hovers around 88. Going to do a load of box drills from now on. Take pics of the two of you in action. It will add another facet to the training.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.
Hello friends,
Apologies for the huge delay, primarily owing to peak business period in my neck of the woods. Anyway, reading the three replies from Dev, Jitu and Archer brought back memories of my novice days. Believe me when I say, I fully understand how you guys feel, but I can afford to smile now, since I have passed that stage. Unfortunately for you guys and for me, at that point of time, there was nary a soul to guide me and I know, its a horrible feeling of confusion and frustration to NOT KNOW, whether whatever you are doing is the correct thing or the other way round.
COming back to self talk.
1. Self talk is a voice which goes on and on in our heads, the biggest problem is that it jumps from the present to the past or future. Example Dev's comment that he shouldhave stuck the Baikal, or for somebody who has shot a few tens in a row, then he starts anticipating what his score would be like at the end of the match (future).
2. The KEY is to get this self talk firmly centered in the PRESENT. The moment it starts hopping back and forth by even so much as a a few seconds, then the razor sharpness starts peeling off.
3. The next worse thing,is the NEGATIVE talk, which includes words like abort abort or damn my sights are blurred, my hand is shaking. When the self talk mentions these things, what it is doing is AFFIRMING to your subconscious mind that whatever (negative) is occurring is the thing which YOU WANT!
4. This negative self talk when repeated again and again, will slowly but surely veer you towards developing a self image of a poor shooter. HOW?
5. After several matches (practice as well as competition), your self talk cassette will begin to follow a certain pattern. For example, most novices start shakily, the self talk carries on precisely like the audio strip alongside the video film. The video film is what you are actually doing. So as you begin shakily, the sound track alonside the visual track starts recording the whole match as it progresses from not so good to gradually improving. Till you reach the final series, where without any form of pressure or expectations, you begin shooting very well, in fact your best. Now all this recorded in your subconscious memory. The next tme you go into a match, your subconscious mind will try to REPRODUCE a performance very similar to the one recorded in earlier matches.

Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.
Hi Guruji,
Yesterday I shot a mini match at the range, the heat was a searing 43*c or so and I was dripping sweat. I was trying to shoot how I had been practicing dry fires, using a relaxed hand shake type of grip. As I shot a began with a five, followed with a seven and then began hitting 8's and 9's. After thirty shots I realised that I was pulling shots off the ten. It would go nine and a little left inside the rather large nine ring. Normally with dry firing at home and all I would do about an 89 or so score at the range. I observed the shot and realised that my trigger action was pulling the shot to the left part of the nine ring. So I went back to squeezing the heck out of the grip like I used to. So then I slowly start clipping the nine dead center, followed by a few tens. You know the ones where the pellet cuts the exact center of the ten circle . My score was quite miserable and went down to a 84%.
I am beginning to feel as if there is difference in the the Lp10 trigger with a pellet in the breech and without. Maybe it is mind messing with me...right now a line from what one of the shooters at Target talk wrote makes me want to burst into tears and hit the bottle,"For those of us who won't be going to the Olympics." I am ditching the mater shot pellets as I just don't feel good with them.
Please to advise.
Regards,
Dev
