can a air pistol be used in the free pistol event?

Hi,

Just came upon a quote that the bronze medal in Olympic free pistol was one with an air pistol.

Regards,

Dev

Must be a typo
The pistol used must be in caliber .22 using .22 Long Rifle ammunition, may only be loaded with one round at a time, and have 'open' sights (i.e. optical and laser sights are not allowed). It must also be operated by one hand and not supported by any other part of the shooter's body.
Or, since quite often Free pistol shooters also compete in the 10m air-pistol event maybe there was some confusion somewhere...

ISSF rulebook for 2009 is available HERE >>

Cheers!

Hi Dev, I tried free pistol(toz 35m) with .22 short used for rapid fire, with fantastic results but later was told by the coach at one of the national camps that NRAI got wise and have regulated it to .22LR as per ISSF regulations
There went my medal !.The guys who did it in the begining made a hit. I did try with a StyerLP10 which is the usual way you start, but even a little breeze and the shot is a gonner!
.regards........ Shankar.
