the fun [for me] is to save ammo for hunting/targets - rather than use it to zero........

I dont think such method may be well suited for everyone. this guy know very well what he need to achieve. common sense and strength of character, some times much better then 100 ballistic calculators with laser range funders.
Maybe not exactly related to rifles, but very good example from pistol target shooting, despite all electronic triggers and improvements in release time, grips, results are very unimpressive. Now a days pistol shooter getting into finals in Olympics with results which may left then behind 20th place in Olympics of 1990s.
what is exactly better and why it is better difficult question in shooting. for example aluminum stock believed to be better in 10m air rifles, but during last Word cup Korean girl shoot 400 from 400 with wooden stock rifle. Non of those, into final did that, and all of them used rifles with aluminum stock.
