can any one enlighted me of the Arms Act/rules or notification: please give facts and back it up with the arms act/rule etc.

1/which states a purchase period is to be given on the arms license.
2/ what are the advantage or disadvantage if one does not have a purchase period given on the arms license.

1) A license holder can purchase weapon from anywhere in India but the condition is that if he purchases from within the area in which his license is valid then one does not require any special permission. But if he is willing to purchase from any other state in which his license is not valid then one need to take two permissions from the DM of his state. They are No Objection Certificate and Travelling License.

2) Purchase period is always mentioned in the license. It is NOT possible that a license does not have a purchase period.

2. i dont know about the disadvantage but the advantage which i can think of is that now you can wait for years with a hope that ONE DAY, govt. of india will lift the ban on arms import and you can buy a NIB SIG 220. and as no gun is endorsed on the license so and you dont have to part with any gun(read junk).

Arms Rules 1962, 52(2):"When a license is granted in Form III,Form V, or Form VI for the possession of arms to be acquired by the licensee subsequent to the grant of the license, the authority granting the license shall at the time of granting the same, direct that within a period specified by him in this behalf, which he may from time to time extend, the arms covered by the license shall be acquired and that the license or the arms or both shall be produced for his inspection and if within the period so specified or extended the licensee fails to acquire the arms and to produce the license or arms or both, as the case may be, the license shall cease to be in force."

As far as I know there is no specific period and this usually goes on precedent, usually in Hyderabad it is 3 months, then an extension for another 3 months and then 1 month. This is not set in stone and varies from place to place.

In my opinion, while the Licensing Authority is the one to blame for such errors, it is the licensee who must bring it to the notice of the authority on finding such procedural errors.

it is very possible that license does not have a purchase period. have seen one at least.
