Indians For Guns

hi,
can anyone tell us about rules regarding civil air travel with licensed guns?

There have been a few threads around this.

From what little I remember..
Go to the desk, declare the weapons. There are a couple of forms, inspections etc. But fairly painless.
However do arrive at the airport well ahead of your flight.

This has been discussed in some depth, please do a search and you will find it. I travel with my revolver/pistol, but have not tried taking my rifle. The rules are the same for both handguns and long guns. Most of what you require has probably been answered already but please don't hesitate to ask any specific questions.

BTW they insist these wpn to be put somewhere else( or with someone like pilot or crew) or these are kept in the individual's luggage only?

the firearm is kept in the passenger's luggage and inspected and locked, after verifying the Sl.No., Make, Type and No. of cartridges and the license number,area of validity,name and address and co related to the ticket and then the baggage tags. Then an airline employee will personally escort it to the aircraft. All this has been covered in detail, so please look it up,

Just my 2 cent, never ever keep the gun loaded. personnel checking the arm will be from CISF and with limited knowledge of fire arm safety. CISF gives equal opportunity to both gender, so as in my cases also when they check your fire arms there are chances that they fool arround it, like posing with it, admiring it and may pull the trigger also. Just think what will happen if it is loaded

ALSO - As per DGFT rules you may only check in a maximum of 50 rounds of ammo. If you need to carry more ammo for e.g. shooters going to attend a shooting competition/ training camp, you need to take prior approval from the DGFT, else they will not allow you to check in anything more than 50 rounds.

The above applies to domestic travel within India. Other countries have their own rules with varying degrees of restrictions.
