LEGAL ARMS TRAINING

After you have been granted a license for a firearm and when all the formalities of entering the details of the firearm are completed on the license.
One is issued an order for arms training which has to be completed and the training completion certificate has to be given back to the arms and ammunition department.
The training is for a period of 5 days where in one is trained in the handling of your gun , the gun cleaning, the various gun holding posture, the dos and donts of gun handling, the legal formalities in case one discharges a weapon and last the chance to fire your weapon in the police firing range , here you are guided in case you are not hitting the target .
A minimal fee is taken for the training and a certificate is issued at the end of the course.
This is a right initiative and a positive approach for legal arms training undertaken by the mumbai police force for their citizens who own arms.

also for a small fee one can fire with due permission at the police firing range for those who already own a fire arm.

Kudos to the mumbai police force for such a positive approach.

the arms and ammunition branch hands over the training letter to you when you endorse the guns on your license and you are supposed to hand over a copy of the arms training certificate to the arms and ammunition dept, within the stipulated time.

for a rifle + hand gun the charges are 320 rs

Good for Mumbai police atleast they dont post funky anti-gun posters and do something more meaningful. Wish there were more civilians with weapons and training the outcome of that dark Nov day could have been different.

Great new approach, I have been preaching this to the various Arms dept. officials for quite a few months now and I'm surprised to see this has come in to practice.

BUT..... Getting a new arms license in Mumbai is now almost impossible for the common man.

Thanks for the valuable information doctor. This is an excellent new approach taken by Mumbai Police, an example set for other State Police to follow. May be they have realised and felt the need and importance of legally armed civilians aftermath of the Mumbai attack. I may be wrong, but this is my own interpretation of facts put forwarded by Doctor, If this is so, then the government should also understand the need of simplifying the licensing precedures and important of all the need for better calibre weapon for the civilians, if something substantial is expected from civilians, especially, when our Prime Minister talks of participatory democracy. (You guess what I mean to say). I don't advocate policing by the armed civilians, or for that matter, small arms are no match for AKs when it comes to real situation (for example a terrorist attack), but atleast under special circumstance, if need be, or someone gets unluckly sliped in a bad situation, then use of deadly force from the civilian at proper time can save his own life as well as the lives of many others, (a stich at a time saves nine) thus giving a helping hand to government... Any thoughts???
