Hi everybody,
Can knowledgeable members of IFG tell me if i got a license for a high power air rifle, can i import .22 cal or higher cal air rifle as a fire arm? According to my knowledge Indian Arms Act exempts only low power air rifle for having a license. for high power air rifle there is a process and fee for getting a license. Now my question is if it is necessary to get a license for high power air rifle than it means high power air rifle is treated as a fire arm, than obtaining a valid license for it can some body import it as a fire arm with Fire Arm Certificate? Pls let me know.
If it sounds stupid pls forgive me.

Re: LICENCE FOR HIGH POWER AIR RIFLE AS FIRE ARM
Hi Tuktuk,
Any airgun which does not satisfy the deal wood test is not exempt from the provisions arms act and therefore considered as an "arm" required to be held on a valid arms license, as you would be aware all imports of arms have been banned since ~1986, therefore there is no way to import such an item.
If you were to get an arms license for such an airgun, you would be ONLY free to purchase one from the Indian market - either from:
a) An arms licensee who holds it on a similar arms license
b) An arms dealer who has it duly entered in his register
I don't think it would be easy to find one locally as no one in India makes them, and as I mentioned earlier - imports are banned.
Cheers!
Abhijeet
