Wild Boar & Blue Bull - Declared Vermins

One hears and reads about certain states like Punjab / Haryana / Himachal / Madhya Pradesh where wild boar and blue bull have been declared vermins and you can get licences issued via the panchayat & SDM to shoot these animals provided one can prove that they are destroying your crops.
What i wud like to know is that does any of the esteemed members here have first hand experience regarding the above procedure & process and is this whole thing about being declared vermin and being legally shot actually true or just something one hears and reads about ???
Cheers Rohit.

Hi Rohit,
Only the governments of these states have declared these animals as vermins. This has to be approved by the Union Ministry for Environment and Forests and an amendment has to be made to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which is not so easy as the Bill will be tabled in Parliament and that has to get the approval of majority of the members. Even if this all goes through and people are allowed to hunt, the carcass of the dead animal will have to be handed over to the forest department, which will 'bury' it.

Man I saw this heading of this post and I was like - WOWOWO but once i opened it it was waaaa. Anyway
coming to the topic this was (not sure now) openly published in papers in UP and they did not ask for any paperwork. So if the farmer allowed you then you could go ahead.
Not sure of what the situation is there now.

As Ebenezer has pointed out they are not declared as vermin, not as per the classifications laid out in the Wildlife Protection Act (Schedule V). However in certain states they are treated as pests and allowed to be shot/ trapped/ killed by farmers who are engaged in protecting their crops from damage.
My experience is limited to Haryana where the Blue Bull was declared as a "pest" under the HVP Bansi Lal regime (in the 90's). The farmer can only shoot the animal on his own land while protecting his own crops, and the carcass must be deposited with the local authorities for destruction. If they were under Schedule V of the Wildlife Protection Act, these restrictions would not be there...
Cheers!

Wild boar is hunted in some places with the permission of the local DFO by farmers whose crops are damaged by these animals, though officially it hasn't been declared as vermin. But again, the carcass has to be handed over to the Forest Department. Sometime back, some farmers in Vellore in Tamil Nadu had shot down wild boars without permission and they were arrested.

Dear Shooter
I have the Nilgai menace on my farms.
more than 300 of em. in small herds of 20 to 50.
I have been assured a permit by the pradhan, -
In UP a pradhan's certificate is enough, the villagers are fedup too.
you guys might get an 'invite' , but i need to arrange to take some time off too.
B.Regards
Shamsher

Perazzi, you are skating on very thin ice here buddy... or probably (I believe) you misread what Shamsher meant... IMHO legally only the farmer can shoot to protect his/ her own crops not anyone else. Keeping this in mind his "invite" is probably to come watch while they protect their crops, and of course generally enjoy a trip to the countryside - fresh air and all that... A similar invitation from my side is open to anyone who'd like to come visit and experience how the "other 70%" of India lives...
Cheers!

You mean the other 70% live in big havelis with half a dozen SUVs lying around to take you fishing all around the country side?
When and where do I sign up for this change in life style?
