Clarification needed

Hi all,

There is this query in the arms licence application: Is anyone else in the family is in possession of a firearm? If the answer is yes, can it be a ground for rejection? However, this query is only in the application form downloaded from the city police website. This, however, is not in use and the authorities at the CoP's office give another application form, which doesn't have this query. I came across an article in The Times of India (an old article) that a businessman in Delhi had been refused licence. This man had applied licence for self protection. One of the reasons given by the authorities was his father too was a licence holder.
Thanks
Ebenezer

There is no law in our country that will prevent you from getting a licence on the ground that there is already a fire-arm licence in your house or locality as it would amount to create a monopoly in favour of the existing licencee. you cannot use or carry any weapons belonging to your family members without written permission. It is difficult for a person to obtain licence if he is having a criminal case, is of un-sound mind, is a minor,or is involved in serious disputes which the verification officer finds that is he is successful in obtaining a licence he might hurt or kill some one for his own gains like land disputes which are very common now in india. Please check the Topic of GRANT OF FIRE-ARMS LICENCE. it might be useful to you.
