Hi I have Australian firearm license and want to bring rifle with me, does
any one know procedure or do I need any permission from Delhi authorities.
Because airlines said they don’t need any thing just firearm license but I
don’t want any trouble at Delhi airport. If any one can help me out will be
really appreciate.
Thanks

Welcome to IFG. Are you planning to apply for a license in India for the rifle that you are planning to bring?

Not for the same rifle. Because I am going to come back to Australia in 3 weeks. But I have already applied for licence in India last year but due to elections my file is still at SP office and really hard to deal with them.

In that case, without going into all the legal details, you cannot bring the rifle to India. You can search this section for the legal requirements for importing a firearm.

Yes you can apply for license in India under NRI quota.
But if you have Australian firearm licence for more than 2 years then it will be more easily to justify.

There is no NRI quota. One can bring a firearm to India under the transfer of residence provision.

13. What are the norms for the import of firearms?
Ans. Import of firearms is prohibited. Likewise, the import of Cartridges in excess of 50 is
also prohibited. However, persons transferring their residence (subject to fulfilment of requisite
conditions of Transfer of Residence) to India for a minimum period of one year are allowed to
import one firearm of permissible bore subject to the conditions that:
(i) The firearm was in possession and used abroad by the passenger for a minimum
period of one year.
(ii) The firearm, after clearance shall not be sold, loaned, transferred or parted with
in any manner during the life time of the passenger.
(iii) The firearm will be allowed clearance under Transfer of Residence facility, on
payment of applicable duty provided the passenger holds a valid arms license
from the local authorities.
