License Grant / Renewal Fee exemption for Defense personnel

Post by mundaire » Tue Sep 19, 2017 5:50 pm

Since the fees for the above were not substantial, not many people bothered with this so far. However with the steep rise in fees under Arms Rules 2016, I'm posting this once again for the benefit of those who are either serving or retired from the armed forces.

Original post is at viewtopic.php?t=1049#p34570
The central government has issued a general order GSR 993 dated 13 Jul 62. According to item-I in the table annexed to the ibid order, all junior commissioned officers, warrant officers, petty officers, non-commissioned officers and soldiers of armed forces whether in service or retired, are exempted from payment of fees for the grant or renewal of any license for the sporting gun or rifle together with reasonable quantity of ammunition for the same.

Hello Abhijeet,
GSR 993 is an amendment to Arms rule 1962 . Since the new rules 2016 have come it has superseded the previous rules and all the amendments made to that rule . Whether GSR 993 is still affective is debatable . However a simple RTI to home department can clarify the same . If someone is interested please reply and will draft the same to clarify this confusion . It will be a great help to all the Army personells bearing an Arms licence .

AFAIK all notifications made under Ams Act 1959 are still in force, unless superceded/ expressly denotified.

Dear Mundaire ,
I again say it is debatable . The point is fees is covered under rules and not under the act . In the GSR its also mentioned its an amendment to rules . When someone goes to office they read it and say that the rules have been changed . Hence the debate . The best is to file one RTI to MHA asking if GSR 993 is still affective . Someone takes a step and will be a great help for ay personels
