A big hello to all gyan gurus.
Gents, I bought a precihole.22 air rifle in bangalore a couple of years ago.
Bought it on a whim to pluck mangoes in my Sasural in tumkur.
I was not sure of legal issues in bringing it across state lines to mumbai, so I left it at my in laws place. Can anyone advise me if it is permitted to bring it to mumbai in my car?
Thanks in advance.

Also carry the precihole user manual where it is written 'no license required' along with serial number/signature of dealer. It looks like an official document.
Disclaimer: I have never carried the gun far out of my house and not sure about my suggestion.

It is perfectly legal to carry it anywhere. As per my experience if you carry a weapon even a fire arm openly, no body bothers about it. I have never been asked to show the license for it also till now.

I have used GATI (surface transport option), worked fine for me.
I wanted to declare full value, but they weren't willing to accept anything over ₹4,999/- (declared) value without a supporting invoice & TIN No., so reduced the declared value to the above amount and gave a one page note stating that this is a gift and has no commercial value.
Delivery time (Delhi to Bangalore) was booking date +4 days.
In 2013 the charges were ₹1,176/-, they might have gone up since then.... not sure, please check.
Needless to say, pack the item well to avoid any damage in transit.
Cheers!

Hi Cruiser13,
I have used GATI (surface transport mode) too and packed my gun carefully, marked it as Sporting item. The time taken between Bangalore to Delhi was 5 days, and was delivered in perfect condition. Their charges were Rs 504 for a 5 kg package. Mark the package FRAGILE though, it helps.
I hope that inspires confidence.
All the best,
Chicky

You can ship it using any courier service. Just declare it as a sports item and give them a declaration that it is not for trade and has no commercial value and that it is for personal use etc. Aimco.in ships using GATI. AARMR used Fedex. Kovibazaar.com uses IPS. They all include Invoice but when non commercial items were shipped a simple declaration to that effect would suffice.
