Hello all
This is Bhupinder from Patiala, my father owns this winchester lever action 1895 model gun which is kept very good, I need to restore this gun and sell it later but gun houses in patiala are telling me that it is "outbored" due to which ammo is difficult to get thus it will be dificult to sell, It is sitting like a white elephant on me with only two bullets... kindly advise me what to do.

Do post photos of the rifle and tell us more about it.

What the h... is an "outbored" gun? Can anyone explain what that term is supposed to mean? The headstamp on the cartridge will tell what the rifle is chambered for, if there is no barrel marking. Tell us what it says, then we may be able to give advise. The Model1895 was chambered for a variety of cartridges.

Seems like a combination of "out of production" and "bore", just guessing here

He means "An obsolete caliber" I guess. This is the model and caliber of the rifle Mr. Anderson owned and hunted with down south and Teddy in Africa.

As Two Rivers mentions, the 1895 Winchester was offered in a number of calibers.
They were: .30-40 Krag, 7.62×54mmR, .303 British, .30-03, .30-06 Springfield, .35 WCF, .38-72 WCF, .40-72 WCF, .405 Winchester

As the original poster has made no mention of the caliber, I was wondering how it was possible to know that it was the same caliber that Kenneth Anderson used? Or am I missing something?

Well, That rifle Mr.Anderson used extensively happened to be in caliber .405 Winchester. I somehow think of 405 Win. when ever 1895win. is mentioned probably because it happened to be the first actual big boomer I fired in my life.

Well, in that case, the .405 WCF is currently loaded by Hornady. Both cartridges and components are available.

I Have than Winchester 1895 in the family back in Himachal we had few orignal rounds left in India i am now in Usa and in process of acquiring another one that rife was called medicine or elephant rifle once used by then American President Teddy Rosavelt. finding amo is pain in ass but had collected few boxes from antique dealer across usa i dont know what bore you got i have .35 wcf ,if you interested selling let me know but i need new license in India first ..good luck restoring it snice rifle
