Hi I have bought a Diana 460 Magnum .22 cal air rifle( exchanged the walther dominator) in delhi and want to carry it with me to Jharkhand by train. I wanted to know if I can do that or will the cops at the station hassle me with legalities at the station????

2. Membership Card of an Air Rifle Club
3. Your personal Identity Card

Did the friendly cop also mention what documents are required in case one IS carrying a firearm on-board a train journey?

I am contemplating taking the train on my way back from Kol with my new Ashani, when I do get it, i.e.

Both my rifles were brought in by train with each trip averaging about 150kms. All i had to do was to keep it unloaded, uncocked & kept inside a sealed box, along with the ID card (on which the bill was made) & the signed bill itself.

Handling was akin to any other luggage & i transversed through multiple junction level rail stations without any hassles. Rifle club membership was not a requirement.

It might be different at your place, but luggages are seldom checked over here.

If you are carrying a fire-arm you need to take...
1. Valid licence with weapon regd. in your name
2. Licence to be active - meaning not expired due to non payment of renewal fee etc....
3. Permit to carry issued by the arms dept. of the police station in your home town mentioning to where you are carrying it & return permit also... this permit will have to mention the reason for carrying--eg. transfer of residence / for repairs etc.

for airguns yes, courier is a good idea. we were talking about something off topic - Firearms

Thank you for the idea. I think its the best way to transport it. I hope the courier people won't demand any rifle club membership as I don't have one.

Why not simply wrap it as a long parcel and simply carry it like any other luggage? If you are able to separate receiver from stock it should fit in a suitcase alongwith undies and toothbrush.

An x-ray machine has been installed at the Delhi station. If it had not been there it wouldn't have been a problem.

No they wont . Just inquire with them, there wont be any issues.

Thanks to all of you for taking interest and replying to my query....well luckily i was able to carry the air rifle with me on train as no one noticed it. As far as courier companies are concerned they refused..i tried bluedart, gati and fedex.
