Dear Veterans,

I was just wondering, (and yes, I did look up "franchise, distributor, etc. in the IFG search engine), why do we not have any authorised dealers / distributors for popular international Air Gun brands in our country?

Hasn't anyone attempted it yet? ..or is there a govt. policy that prevents it? ...or are the big players not interested in this market? After all, Indians do have a right to possess Air-Guns, then why are we subjected to the low quality standard of the local products?

Please enlighten this Jaaging Giraahak !

Bingo!

That's exactly the point!

There was a time when people imported cars despite too much hassle, and look around you now, you're probably sitting in one that was bought hassle free.

Still waiting for an answer, technicalities et al.

Import of airguns is restricted as per foreign policy.Only rifle club shooters are allowed to make direct import of .177 cal air guns.Thats why foreign makers cant enter into indian market and the dealers have to sell crappy stuff.

same can be read as follows
Import of Arms, Air Guns and Air Pistols:

· Import of 0.177 bore Air Guns and Air Pistols (which are otherwise Restricted as per Foreign Trade Policy) is allowed to shooters registered with Rifle Clubs or District/State/National Rifle Association and to National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) for supplying the same to the eligible State Rifle Association / Clubs and eligible shooters subject to the condition that –

the purchase/user of these items has a valid “user licence” from the competent local (Indian) authority under the provisions of existing Arms Act, 1959.

Import of arms of permissible bore is permitted to “renowned shooters”* for their own use against an import licence issued by DGFT and a valid user licence from the competent local (Indian) authority under the provisions of existing Arms Act, 1959

We have a fondness for asking " Kitna dete hai? " to fighter pilots. Many want cheap stuff rather than pay for quality. And the government fears a populance armed with air guns...
