AFAIK, you have a quota, say 25/50.You can buy 25 at a time, a max of 50 in a Jan-Dec cycle.If you don't use all of it, you can keep it right? So over the years of you posses say 200 rounds at home, is that a crime?

Also, what if some one wants to give you ammo? You bought the full 50 already.A friend wants to give you some.Can you take it? You didn't buy it.It was a gift.Is it a crime to accept ammo some one may not need/wants to give?

Can you inherit your pop's stock of ammo?

Can you keep some one else's ammo at home for safekeeping?

If your license says 25/50...then that is it.
Don't have a bullet more or you will be a state guest and enjoy the hospitality of their bar & grill.
You can't inherit,borrow whatever.

The law is pretty clear on that. On your license, it clearly says that total that you can possess at one time and the total you can purchase in one year. If it says 25/50, then you are breaking the law by being in possession of anything over 25 cartridges at one time.

a question is being asked here. which is, can one do this or that?. asking questions is not a crime.(or is it) nor asking a question an intent of crime.

the answers all the question asked is simple. you can only keep what is on your licence and no more. this amount does not increase year after year.

example:

20/50 is on your licence. that means you can only buy 20 in the year and keep max 50 in the year. [more then 50 shots in any year is a crime, no accumulation allowed] any more then 50 shots is a crime. regardless who or how one got it.

If you want ammo over an above your quota, you can request the authorities for a one time extension.

You cannot possess more then the quota prescribed at one given time in your Arms License for a particular bore. Yearly limit has nothing to do with what quantity you have in your possession. It only describes your maximum legal purchase limit in a calender year. Simple.

I am confused.On a 25/50 Quota,i thought you can purchase a max of 25 at one time and have a max of 50 rounds in your possession.Kandarp says you can possess 25 at one time and 50 a year? Naga says you can buy 25 in a year and keep 50 in your possession.Could you explain this?

AB, on what grounds can you ask for an extension, and to what levels is it given? Can you have more rounds for that year alone as in once in a lifetime?

25/50 means you cannot possess more than 25 live rounds at any given time and you cannot buy more than 50 live rounds in a given calender year.

You can shoot more than 50 rounds in a year, provided the ammo is given by an approved shooting range and is utilised at the range and the emptys and/or unfired rounds are given back before you leave the range premises.

A target shooter has genuine grounds for an increase in his ammo quota.

Shooting ranges provide as much ammo as you need or do they have a quota too? I think ranges largely provide shotgun and .22 LR ammo? What about other calibers, like .32ACP or .380 ACP? Are there some special provisions for that?

Well depends on your range, but I know the one in Delhi provides .32ACP. Shooting ranges should provide as much as you need. Also, Look at the wording in you License, on mine is clearly states: Possess upto 25 at a time and Purchase upto 50 each year.

Wrt quotas, what's the realistic maximum they give you? 50/100? I hear if you know people they give you higher quotas? Like 500/1000..?

It's not about who you know. You can get unlimited quota also, if you can come up with a good reason and put up a fight! The Arms Act 1959 or Arms Rules 1962 do not get into anything about the limits. The only place I've been able to find a mention of 25/50 for NPB arms in the MHA notification.

And what reason is good enough for these people?

And do you know anyone who can purchase ammo without a limit?

Good question. I don't think there is any way to quantify this. It's really about how much you are willing to fight it. I'm working on my reasons and will start a topic, once I have something worth sharing!
