Hello everybody,
I have a question for you people.
Is it legal/possible to send fired or emptied shotshells out of India!!
These shells have the purpose of going into a collection.

however if the primer was removed then maybe. do not take this as the law, why not to an RTI with customs to find out.

Well, officially components of ammunition are considered as ammunition for legal purposes. Some years back i fielded a call from someone who was engaged in supplying plastic tubes to IOF/ KF for the production of shotshells. Earlier he had been supplying them with 'uncut' tubes which was not a problem. Then KF demanded that he cut the tubes to the size required for use in individual shotshells, and the problems started! As now they became ammunition components and he was required to get a license for the supply of the same. Eventually he decided that the scale of business from IOF was not enough to justify the hassle and just backed out from the deal.... Guess that's probably why KF reverted back to producing paper shells....

i read a court case in Punjab i think, where the judge declared that if the primer was removed from the fired cases then they were not deemed to be part of ammo.

OK,
So when judge says. When primer is removed from fired case, or empty case, shipping should be possible??
I say empty case because without primer it is the same as fired.

Can somebody please confirm it?

you are asking, what no one that we know has done. so we can not say. best to search the Indian customs website to find the answers. mainly no one that we know of has done anything like that. please search in two areas. Arms Act and Arms rules and the customs requirements. they are your best way forward.

We talk of guns, ammo and laws all day but topics like these and the responses, Abhijeet's reply in this thread for example, actually make me realise what kind of s..t Indians have to put up with every day .....

in this case when nobody has done it and knows nothing about it, why dont you send some insignificant shells and see what happens to them?keep us posted.

I have checked the customs website but there is no information about sending empty cartridges out of India. You can also try to find information on their website http://www.cbec.gov.in/

thats because no one thought of that one. try and find out is the way forward
