PETA attacks Pokemon for promoting animal abuse

From dressing up as Ku Klux Klansmen to featuring scantily clad celebrities, PETA's appetite for publicity seems boundless.

Now, the animal rights group has set its sights on Pokemon, charging that the franchise's latest video game, Pokemon Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2, paints a rosy picture of what amounts to thinly veiled animal abuse.

The organization says that much like animals in the real world, Pokemon are treated as unfeeling objects and used for human entertainment and as subjects in experiments.

"The way that Pokemon are stuffed into pokeballs is similar to how circuses chain elephants inside railroad cars and let them out only to perform confusing and often painful tricks that were taught using sharp steel-tipped bullhooks and electric shock prods," PETA claims.

In an attempt to save young minds who play the game, PETA has released a parody game called Pokemon Black and Blue: Gotta Free 'Em All which can be played on its site.

In an article that appears on Forbes' website, David Ewalt argues that "PETA seems to have missed the single biggest theme of the Pokemon series: That Pokemon should be treated humanely and live as our equals.

"The games are loaded with an endless stream of characters who go on and on about true friendship between man and Pokemon," he writes. "It’s so saccharine and so completely opposite what PETA suggests that it boggles the mind."

So sad .......
God only know why these guys after air gun ban cattapult ban . Small bird are losing their habitat ( Trees , water hole ) and due to pollution their population is decreasing . If guns and catapult would have been cause , no bird would exist in country like US and UK where guns and cattapult is not banned.

The following may put things into perspective for a lot of folk. A study into the estimated number of bird deaths due to them crashing into radio transmission towers provided the following insights:
In 2000, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reported that 77,000 towers were higher than 199 feet, which meant that they were required to have warning lights for aircraft. If calculations were correct, that meant that nearly 200 million birds collided fatally with towers each year in the United States alone. In fact, those figures had already been usurped, because cell phone towers were being erected so fast. By 2005, there were 175,000 of those. Their addition would raise the annual toll to half a billion dead birds - except that this number was still based on scant data and on guesses, because scavengers get to most feathered victims before they’re found.
Quoted verbatim from the book "The world without us" by Alan Weisman

The above numbers DO NOT take into account HT electricity transmission pylons, whose numbers would be many many times those of radio transmission/ cellphone towers!

Cheers!

1. This is the age of the 15-second celebrity, and these guy (so-called conservationists) are very much in the game.
2. None of them have patience for the long haul. No one is a Gandhi nowadays.
3. The easiest way to gain fame (apart from taking your clothes off in public) is to pretend to be a bleedin' heart and go for easy targets.
4. Electricity pylons, cellphone towers, multi-storied buildings, etc. are tough targets. You can go after them for a lifetime and still not get your 15 seconds. Easier, by far, is to go for airguns, catapults, firearms, etc. Pull the right strings (whatever the string may be) and get a ban. It has taken so many years for the government to ban Diclofenac as a cattle medicine, to preserve the vultures. Still farmers are giving this drug to their sick cattle, will these guys go after them? No!
5. As long as these clowns get enough of the "Facebook billion" to "like" their page, fine. Write about "begging with folded hands", you'll get enough "followers" on Twitter. Kaam khatam, paisa hazam!!

And the peace-loving, ordinary, catapult, airgun, firearm owner suffers!!
