Problem with Registering Rifle with Police Station

Hi my fellow IFGians,
I have a very strange problem at hand. I have purchased my 30-06 rifle under my state-valid NP bore rifle license. I was directed by my friends locally to go and get my rifle registered with the local Police Station.
My doubt now is this - So far, there has been no communication from the license issuing authority or any one (as a matter of fact) directing me to register my rifle at the nearest police station. Is it absolutely necessary to do so?
In spite of this, I took a copy of my license, and license issuing orders (in which the SP of Police was CC'ed), and went to my area police station (Please be noted, I already have a feud with the writer there, because they asked me a bribe when I had applied for license earlier and required police clarification, and I had not given them the money, and they did not recommend me a license, and I applied again and fought back and got it this time.) to get my rifle registered. The writer there said they did not receive any copy of the license issuing order, and hence they will not be able to register my rifle (to hell with these cadaver eating buggers!).
Guys - Please guide me on how to resolve this problem. I consulted my dad and he gave me a course of action -
He asked me to draft a letter (and send it via registered post with acknowledgement) to the SHO of the Police Station (ie the inspector) stating that I have bought a rifle under license, and asking them to register the same in their records, also mentioning that I would be happy to produce the weapon in person if it is required for verification. My dad also suggested me to CC the same letter to the SP of Police, and my license issuing authority (DRO in my case).
Please let me know if the above mentioned approach is OK, and would I be safe from trouble if I do the same.
Thanks & Regards,
Vivek
PS - I would like to have GBMs thought on the legality of the issue mentioned above.

Your dad's suggested the right procedure. How ever you could also go personally and hand over the same draft to the Senior Officer and have the copy of the same stamped by them as received.

There is no reason to panic or run here and there. You may read Rules 52, 62 and 63 of Arms Rules 1962.
The main thing is that the rifle you have purchased is endorsed on your license by the licensing authority. Did you visit the office of licensing authority to get the weapon endorsed on the license? What are they saying?

GBM has it right,AFAIK. You register the rifle with the licensing authority who will enter the calibre, make and serial number of the particular firearm on the license document that you carry. I do not believe that your police station does that.

Dear,
There is no need to register it in local police station. When u register it in the arm section of the authority and on your licence, then it is the responsibility of the authority to send this detail to police station or not. Enjoy with your new weapon Don't bother for that.

Bro !! Don't panic.
The doggy needs a biscuit. You foil one plan and they will device another, they are that desperate. Though I belong to bureaucratic & Political family but at times even i was asked bribes . Being on an anti-corruption warfront with them .What your Dad suggested is no doubt a good approach.

hi
I do not have fire arm or any experience related to it but the logic says before running around police station confirm if the registration indeed needed, ask your friend where he got this information check its authenticity.
MOD nice editing skill you got, completely change meaning of markdnamlko's post.

+1
Just get the firearm endorsed from licensing authority on your arms license. When the licensing authority will enter the caliber, make and serial number of the your firearm on the license document, that itself shows that they have inspected the firearm and are satisfied.

There is no need to worry about the need to go to the local police station and register your weapon. It is the work of the L.A. and his office, to send communication letters informing about the grant of licence to you, to the local police thro the District police office and to the Tashildar concerned, as they asked for reports from them about your ancedents when you applied for the licence. There are funny cases where the dead licenceees are still being located and new licensees and transfer of residencees are not at all in the police registers .

Thank you guys for your support!!!!
@GBM - I already got my weapon registered by the PA General in my collectorate, and the details of my weapon have been endorsed in my licence. They also entered the details about my weapon in the register that they maintain.
Again guys, thank you very much!!
