A pump action shotgun require no special license - a normal single barrel gun (SBBL Gun) license is all that you need...

This is the typical thing.... total lack of common sense and coordination.... the different agencies of the government are working at cross purposes...and the thick-skinned yeast heads are simply not bothered.

The OFB happily produces distilled junk with incredible mastery and advertises the products like any street urchin can buy them off the rack. On the other hand, the MHA happily imposes dick-weed-brainchild blanket bans on firearm types. You can see why our blessed country gets nowhere.

In addition the OFB is living in total denial. If you see the kind of catch phrases they use in their advertisments... 'state of art'...etc. they seem to have convinced themselves they are offering the best in the world. And then you compare the abominations the customer ends up with...and the price that has to be paid for this farce... one can simply term it a criminal deception and exploitation of the consumer. Wonder why some has never been filed against the OFB.

Hi,

For the normal pump action there is no special provision and is endorsed on the SBBL gun licence. However there has been a problem with IOF made pump action because the length of the barrel is less than 21" and hence are no more being issued to civilians. However , the ones which are already endorsed on the existing licences the law is simply silent and the guns continue to remain on the licences.

Hey AC thanks for the info- this was a bit of a muddle. So then I'll resume my search for a "Normal" pump.

In the mean time, I wonder if the OFB folks have even figured out that simply chopping off the barrel stock at 21.5" in the factory could get things rolling again... or perhaps this is too much for our design folks. It'll probably take them another 10 years, endless committees, sub committees, CAG nagging and ofcourse in depth research before they figure that one out.

;)

O ya... and I presume the fops at MHA imagine the country will swim in blood, gore and revolution if more civilians get armed with pumps of what ever size....for that matter any old gun.

Any smooth bore gun with a barrel length less than 20" is classified as prohibited and license for this can only be issued by the Home Ministry,GOI.So a shotgun with a barrel length of 20" or more is classified as NP firearm and license for this is to be issued by the local licensing authority.

The IOFB makes 2 models of the PA shotgun. One with a 20" barrel and another with a 18" barrel. The former is for sale in the civilian mkt. and the latter is meant for sale to the security forces alone. The one with a 20" barrel can be sold to anybody with a license for a SBBL NP shotgun. However the sale of this shotgun has been stopped to every body other than Banks and PSU's ,as per the directions of the Ministry of Home to the IOFB.This continues as nobody has posed a challenge to it.The IOFB web site ( http://ofbindia.gov.in/products/data/weapons/wsc/6.htm ) declares that the PA shotgun has been designed (sic) for # Personal security
# Sporting Arm.Clearly showing that it's meant for sale to civilians.Though how a shotgun with a 20" barrel can be used for SPORTING purpose, escapes me.
