Hello All

After a lot of searching I landed here and I am hoping I will get the right answr this time as after calling a lot of govt depts and talking to many firearm dealers I was not able to get a satisfactory answer. So My question is, I have a valid license for gun which is valid for another 4 years and I am interested in buying a gun from outside india (mostly coz of the quality and cost). If someone can tell me what are the formalities to buy it from say singapore, (my next travel destination) and bring it to india as a checked in luggage, I will be highly greatful..

Someone told me that I have to get a NOC and a Purchase Permission from some Ministry but I still lack a lot of information. I want to be sure of everything before I even think of it. I would really appriciate any help in this regard.

Thanks and Regards
Tushar

I would request that before raising new threads, please search the forum. These matters are already discussed very well in this forum. Firearms are on restricted list of import policy. Unless one is renowned shot or bringing the firearm on transfer of residency, the procedure is next to impossible. That is why this matter is being discussed in this thread http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=18263

Yes. Please do not think of it unless you are willing to fight for it.

Tushar you cannot bring a fire arm to India even in checked in luggage unless you are coming to India under transfer of residence. In the case of TR you should own the weapon atleast for one year in abroad and you should have all the papers for the same.If you likes to own a firearm other than this you have to be a renowned shot.If you dont meet any of these two conditions its IMPOSSIBLE under current government policy.

But you have your own rights and you can challenge this policy of government in court by submitting a writ if you have time and money. If you win you can make the import.

More than money it is matter of time one can spare. If one has the time to visit court, understands the legal points and has prepared well, he can successfully fight the matter in court. There are many examples. A recent example is of a gentleman who approached Supreme Court himself without any lawyer and won the case. Matter was decided by the bench headed by Chief Justice S H Kapadia that banned use of tinted glasses in vehicles.
