SHAH ALAM: A 45-year-old trader has been jailed for life for his hobby - making do-it-yourself air rifles for hunting fowls.

High Court judge Justice Mohd Sofian Abdul Razak told Abdul Wahab Mohammad Noor that he was lucky not to receive the death sentence under the Firearms Act 1960.

Abdul Wahab was charged with manufacturing weapons without a licence at his house at Lot 2893, Batu 15, Paya Jaras Hilir at 9.30pm on April 2, 2009.

He was also accused of having a fake Python 357 revolver and 810 screws (bullets) at the same place and time.

Three of Abdul Wahab's 'customers' testified in court that the weapons were used to hunt jungle fowl (ayam hutan) as a hobby.

The weapons were sold for RM300 each.

Justice Mohd Sofian told the accused: "You said this is merely a hobby but this is a dangerous one. If you do get a royal pardon, don't do this again.

"Now that you are going to jail, do learn appropriate skills like shoe-making or sewing. Repent, and accept your takdir (fate)."

Well I do support the point, that his actions were illegal and he should be punished.

It seems the law is an ass in Malaysia, and the Judge has not exercised common sense in interpreting the law .

No, 3 years would have been more than enough.
But I would add, if he could prove that he was unaware of his clients actions, he should be fined, and a strict warnin must be issuedg

Next thing you know they will be sending Automobile manufacturers to jail for life because their customers have been involved in a fatal car crash.
He was also accused of having a fake Python 357 revolver and 810 screws (bullets) at the same place and time.
...and in other news car model makers will be charged with possessing deadly weapons (fake cars).
