Where do "they" get "it"???

We get to see an exact replica of Barrett M9 and COLT1911 in many TV shows like CID, CRIME PATROL etc and many other tv serials and various hindi movies as well.

After looking at them they dont seem to be a cheap plastic replicas and look like full metal replicas with all the functionalities f a real one.

If import of these guns is not so easy and manufacturing of these replicas in India is still a dream for us...... then from where the film-makers get these pistols for shooting. Looking at the purpose of film-making, I hope they will not be using a real fire arm

I'm specifically looking for a fully functional replica of Barrett M9 pistol with all features of a real one like gas powered, blowback with full metal body, magzine loading and so on.

SOMEONE PLZ THROW SOME LIGHT ON THIS.

Umarex, Germany as well as quite a few manufacturers in Europe make these replicas. They are mainly used for theatrical purposes only. The barrels are sealed at the muzzle with a bright orange plug so that a) it cannot be misused for nefarious activities b) to create enough blow back to work the action to chamber the next blank from the clip and c) also they are incapable of emitting the flash from the muzzle. They are purposely made of brittle metal lest someone tried converting them into a lethal fire arm. Most parts are made with cheap stamped metal to control the over all cost. These are categorized as black firing replicas. One does get Soft Air replicas as well which are powered by a small gas cylinder cleverly hidden in the grip of the pistol. These are meant for casual short range plinking and are rather weak in performance. I would consider it to be more of a toy but opinions may differ.

Dear amitkj,
They are blank firing replicas, AFAIK you need a passport to import them.
Since when Barrett started making M9?

Dear marksman,
They are called magazine. The inappropriate use of the word 'clip' really rustles my jimmies.

Priyan sir,
It could have been a slip. Actually I am quite confused at times between the use of a clip and magazine when discussing fire arms, especially pistols. Please enlighten me on this one somebody, once and for all.
Thanks
Marksman

Ps: I was once told an empty hollow under the breech where cartridges are inserted individually is called a magazine and a metal contraption that holds several cartridges is called a clip which eventually goes into a magazine.

Dear marksman,
Almost all handguns use magazines now-a-days. If the feed system holds the ammo and feeds it with the help of a spring, it's a magazine. There are very few pistols that use clips, like the Mauser C96. There's something called "moon clip" which are used to shoot rimless cartridges in revolvers.

Hope it helped to clear your confusion.

Looong ago when i was a young boy, i remember reading an article in some magazine i had picked up while waiting for my turn at the barbers. I dont remember which it was but it was one of the common ones popular in india in those days.

I think it may have been "sarita"

In it was featured an article about a gentleman and his company who specialised in providing (replica) guns to the hindi film industry.

They also made copies of "foreign machine guns" and there were pics of his workshops and various 'guns' in different stages of production.
There was also a list of famous movies in which he had provided guns.

I had forgoten all about it but this thread brought back memories; a blast from the past.

That was when i found out the guns in hindi movies werent real.

Barrett & Beretta are two different companies - both engaged in the manufacture of firearms & both supply arms to the US military. See www.beretta.com & www.barrettrifles.com :)
