Import of fire arms and ammunition is banned in India.
Only a foreigner who's staying for more than one month can import an arm.

You can import knives and airguns though

chandrashekhar if you had used the search box on the upper right hand corner of this website, you would have found that this topic has already been discussed in detail. Please avoid raising new threads for same topic if already discussed.

You can import arms other than firearms i.e. edged arms like knives/swords etc. subject to notification under Section 4 of Arms Act 1959 for your area.

Import of airguns is restricted for all with some exceptions for few who are rifle club members.

Theoretically on paper it is possible to import firearms provided you get import license for the same. Practically not possible to import firearms unless you are willing to do any one of the following:

1. Have the means and influence to convince the DGFT or adequate number of MPs to get the present export/import policy for arms and ammunition to be corrected so that it is completely in confirmation and subject to Section 10 and related provisions of Arms Act 1959.

2. Have the resolve, time and money to fight this matter in courts so that courts direct the government to correct the present export/import policy for arms and ammunition so that it is completely in confirmation and subject to Section 10 and related provisions of Arms Act 1959. If you are a lawyer who likes to volunteer for public cause or someone willing to fight this matter voluntarily in courts, let me know, I will provide you the legal points/masala needed to fight in courts.

3. Go abroad and possess firearm there for at least one year and come back with it. You will not be able to sell/transfer etc. for lifetime. This matter is also discussed in detail on this forum.
