yes I am a n00b... but please don't pull out your walthers as yet.
we, a couple of guys and a girl, are planning to camp out in thick jungles for about two weeks. Can one of us apply to get a temporary license in bangalore or anywhere else nearby and get a tiny pistol?
I searched the forums and found some suggestions for foreigners license etc. but can someone throw some light over here please?

You would be better served with a 12 bore shotgun if you are thinking of self defense. If the place that you are planning to camp in is a reserve forest, then carrying a firearm is banned.
I don't know if you can get a temporary license, it is hard enough to get a regular one.
Wouldn't it be safer for you all to camp in an established camp run by a tourism firm?
Welcome to the forum and enjoy your stay.

Question - Are you normally a permanent resident of India (citizen/ legally resident alien)?
If yes, then there is no such thing as a temp arms license for Indian residents. So your options are either get an arms license issued in your/ one of your companions name, seek a temporary extension of "area of validity" to cover the states you plan to transit through/ visit (both tasks are somewhat difficult in nature) OR you may simply arm each member of your party with pepper spray, pack in some machetes (useful in many other ways in a camping scenario) and then pray for the best.
The temporary license is only for foreigners who are visiting India and was earlier issued for the purpose of hunting as well as target shooting, but is now only issued to foreigners who are visiting India for purpose of participating in a recognised shooting competition (hunting having been banned here).
Cheers!

In India prayer seems to be the best option.
I doubt if the babus would oblige with a permanent license for this purpose...

Hey
phunter - welcome to IFG!
There is really no temporary licence available as
mundaire says; might I say - even required for a couple of guys and gal/s out on a short camping trip in and around BLR - simply because you really do not need a firearm!
On the other hand there is no restriction to carrying hunting knives, staves, other stuff, even catapults - hmmm?!
Overall, the area around BLR is truly fun and frolic for sure - from my 1970's - 80's recollections!
Seriously - why dont you consult with some experienced outdoors-men in BLR? They should be able to guide you on your trip and make it more organized, hassle-free, fun, huh?!

ckk,
Thanks, this forum is truly awesome. It seems more like an association with so many experienced and qualified professionals.
anyway, sorry to break the bad news, if you want to save your recollections, do not come back to blr.. it is no more a garden city. It is a concrete jungle out here. there are no camping spots in blr.. u need to really get far far away from the city.
and one more bad news - if you think you do not need self-defence aids in blr, goodluck. thanks to the influx of money into blr, daytime robberies are uncommon to be unheard of. another delhi in the making...
