Why form 50 is required?

why form 50 is required?
Courier company said that if I want to bring a air gun from Ahmadabad to kolkata for personal use which price is above Rs.5000.00 , from 50 clearance required from kolkata sale tax office for that. Why it is required? I am bringing it for my personal use only.

That is purely a sales tax matter and sales tax laws differ from state to state . This has nothing to do with the article being a gun .This will apply to any article priced above Rs.5000 in your case .
