Fire arms license in Canada

Post by tonysilas » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:16 am

Hi all
I'm sure someone in this forum can answer this question. Can a person on a student visa apply for fire arm license in Canada?
Many thanks,
Tony

Isn't there an agency that is equivalent of USCIS in Canada? I would call them and ask. But in general, you take Canadian Firearm Safety Course, once completely you can buy a gun on the same day. On the Internet there is no such mention that non-immigrants can not apply for firearm license.

I would be very sure before I go for it. I don't want to get deported for doing something I legally can't. It is one thing that pro-gunners think every one should arm their selves but the other side of the coin is that, a lot of government have laws to prevent everyone from arming their selves.

Hi, tony
NO you can not have a arms license on student visa.you have to be a Canadian citizen or immigrants to get a arm license.

Yes you have to take a firearm safety coures and you need a 80% marks in writing and practical test after that you have to send all the paper to govt. with your picture and fee, then you have wait for 45days in those 45 days thay going to check your backround and criminal record and also thay going to take interview with you as well, also you need a two reffrence from some body who know you at least for 3 years, police going to take a interview with them as well, if you do not have a criminal record and pass in interview then thay approved you for the license.

I hope this info. help you to understand how to get arm license in Canada.

afaik even in the US if you are on a temporary visa like student's visa you are not eligible for gun permits. So even in the US an international student with no green card/citizenship can possess license for owning a gun.

rather go to a range and shoot their guns and learn everything from A-Z about guns, hence if you get a job in canada then you would be on an immigrants visa then you can go for PAL license.

Though again Canadian Citizenship Law isn't as tough as the US law i think an indian can get Canadian Citizenship before he can get even a Green Card in the US.
