Hello,
Please guide on the procedure, if it is permitted on the procedure of export of my gun out of the country for reconditioning.
Details required on what permissions, paperwork and authorities are involved in the process.

Export/Import of firearms is in the restricted list of EXIM Policy. As the things stand today, besides your arms license, you also need a separate license for export/import of your personal firearms. In my opinion you have the following options:

a) Convince/beg/plead before the authorities that the kind of repairs required to be done, cannot be done in India. It has to be done in xyz country hence the license for export and import be "granted" to you.

b) File a writ in High Court/Supreme Court challenging the placing of firearms in the restricted list of EXIM policy since arms are your fundamental right under Articles 19 and 21 of the Constitution of India. c) Be happy with whatever type of repairs are done by gunsmiths in India. Or be happy with whatever condition your gun is in.

Just curious, what type of gun you have that you would like to export for reconditioning.

Export of an IMPORTED firearm for the express purpose of repairs, subject to undertaking of REIMPORT back into India, is very much allowed. I don't have the details of the process & paperwork, but I am quite sure that it is allowed.

Can please tell me as to which authorities are involved in the process so I can go and enquire there for further details.
I hold a arms liscense from the commissioner office.

Yes you can send your gun overseas for repair and refurbishing.

I think you need quotation of repairs or refurbishing and import permit from the country you plan to send the gun to I know someone who did this but I would find out about logistics involved in meantime you can speak to one of the exporters in Mumbai or Delhi.

by the time you get all your papers ready,you would have grown too old to handle a gun...sorry to say this.

I thought you would be able to help me out. I have written to a few restorers in UK who will be getting back to me with the quote and also help me out with an import permit.

I did talk to a few exporters reagarding this. All they are interested in is buying the weapon. So, I have drawn a black here.
The weapon in question is a very interesting field grade double rifle which I intend to retain if it can be restored.

Please do inform me once you have any further details.
