Meeting the Asst. Commissioner of Customs today. (RTI Cell)
Got some queries:
1. Import of air guns/pistols via baggage/courier (without the club membership)
Also, a friend's coming down from Hongkong- He's a Chinese national and wanted to know if he could get me a .177 cal pistol/rifle with him in a checked baggage.
2. Import of blank firers- what are the rules. The notification states its FREE to import, but there are some conditions.
3. Airsoft pistols and rifles- Will ask what does it require to get those imported (without some club membership) for personal use- as I know that commercial import is banned anyway.
That will be all. If anyone got any questions, do feel free to email me at:
[email protected]
Thanks,
N.

Rules are available if you do a little search here. And please keep in mind land of law is no exception for any foreign nationals in general (Diplomatic immunity, we are not talking here).

Please do also ask what are the laws and rules for import of knives. What's allowed and what's not in terms of size, type and quantity. The information will help everyone. Thanks for your offer.

Dear all,
I met the Adl. Commissioner saab, Mr. Rajendra Singh, yesterday thru a friend. Nice gentleman! Spoke to him about air gun import, thru courier, thru baggage... import of the blanks, and airsoft toys. he said that there are different rules applicable for air gun import (if you're a club member), and other rules applicable if you not a member of a shooting club.
Regarding import of blanks and airsoft guns--- he said they're toys, and import duty will be levied. He agreed they're toys, but he's new to this.
He asked me to send RTI application. He helped me with the format as well. I will be sending the letter by hand, and once I get their answer in written format, that will hold as a strong document. It will have the commissioner's signature and stamps.
No officer can detain the stuff if you follow the right procedure. Seedha kaam! Thats what I believe in!
Thanks,
N.
