AFAIK the Arms Act or the Arms Rules do not mention anything regarding the discharge of the firearm in residential areas. However, that in itself may not mean anything. There may be regulations akin to local zoning ordinances like in the USA or rules made by the Police etc. depending on the location.

Usually this type of regulations exist because a safe backstop is required when a firearm is discharged and approved firing ranges have these. As for discharging a firearm into the air whether legal or not, is a bad idea since you will not know where the bullet is gong to land. It breaks one of the rules of safe firearm handling!!
