i want to get my ammunation quota increased.
The usual reason for getting ammunition quota increased is "target practice".
I am already life member of Jaspal Rana Shooting Range & USRA
You can further attach photocopy of membership to these organizations to claim increase in ammunition quota for target practice. Apply for at least 1200 cartridges or more.
can we get more than 25 at a time.
Yes if you chase the matters wisely and do not give up.

Congratulations vik197 on that.
I had a question for you on this. For what purpose you have been granted arms licence? Self Protection or Sport
If sport then one is covered under "Need ammo for target practice" reason.
What if some one has arms licence under self protection category and needs additional ammo quota? What reason should be given to LA for need of enhanced ammo quota?

Dear goodboy_mentor,
I will ask for your opinion on this as well

Thanks

One of the guns I own in India is a .38 ACP pistol. Originally the quota was 25/50. Had requested increase, reason given, "ammunition is hard to find, so need to stock up when available". Simple procedure after submitting application, talked to ACP (young and very reasonable fellow) under the DCP licensing office and approved right away to 100/100. This was a couple of years ago, should be same policy now.

hi vik,it looks like the table has turned the other way.dm had sanctioned and the pg has asked for a rule which can allow.so i think,if you don't mind send me a copy of your licence for me to get my 500.thanks.

Same reason "Target Practice" because target practice is even more necessary for self defense than sport. If one does not practice enough for "sport", he may only loose a piece of metal called "medal". If one does not practice enough for self defense, he may loose his life or limb.
the pg has asked for a rule which can allow.
There is no rule that tells the LA about number of cartridges he can endorse. It is discretionary power of LA. LA can "ascertain" the "need" for increase in ammo quota and increase it as per his "wisdom".

Thanks goodboy_mentor on that.
Next question that comes on my mind is: Say for example Mr. A has quota of MAX 50 cartridges to be purchased in one year AND MAX of 25 Cartridges to be possessed at one time. Now if Mr. A does not use any cartridge in a year then can he buy his quota of 50 in the next year citing the reason "Need fresh Ammo". Will the gun dealer ask him if he has exhausted all of his preceding years quota? Now if Mr. A is successful in getting 50 more then that means he now has 100 cartridges which is more than what he is allowed. How does govt control such incidents?

ruger_rugged,
Generally dealers ask the licensee if they have purchased any ammo in the current year and how many. This is so that the total per year quota may not be exceeded. When the Government is granting a license, there is some level of faith involved, that the licensee will not abuse or otherwise misuse the terms and conditions of the license. It is impossible for the Government to keep track of the "at one time" quota of every licensee.

This is one of the reasons that NAGRI is asking for the removal of the quota system altogether. At most they can ask to deposit the used cartridge cases before a further purchase can take place. This is what the current Proposed Arms Policy is trying to do. All it will do is create a blackmarket for cases, and all this is for what exactly? It is not reducing the threat of terrorism or the use of illegal firearms but is definitely increasing the difficulties of the licensee who is trying his best to be law abiding.

Regards,
Anand

Since his license allows him to possess 25 cartridges at anytime, if police somehow finds him in possession of any number of cartridges more than 25, he can be booked under Arms Act 1959. Therefore to avoid this unwanted trouble, it is always better to get ammunition quota increased.

Have you talked with other gun owners in Punjab. How they get ammunition quota increased?

It depends on how it is written on your license? Usually it is written in a manner that means separately for both the weapons i.e. 25/250 + 25/250.
