Dear Friends,

I am basically from Calcutta( also my passport address) but due to my profession (IT) I am now based in Bangalore for last 5 years.
Now my question is for a arm license ( semi-auto - .357 SIG or .40 S&W) where I should apply? In Calcutta or in Bangalore? Kindly pl. let me know the contact office/person details.

Best regards,

Kalki

Since you are residing in Bangalore for last 5 years, you may apply from Bangalore. You should be have some "proof of residence" for Bangalore with you. You do not need to write any specific bore on the license application form. Writing as "NPB Pistol/Revolver" would be sufficient. You will be able to purchase any non prohibited bore pistol/revolver(which also includes .357 SIG or .40 S&W). Most of the Indians have very little practical choice of calibers. IOF .32 bore revolver or pistol is the usual choice. Some go for IOF .22 revolver.

BTW I do not think .357 SIG or .40 S&W would be available in India and import of firearms by arms license holders is on restricted list of EXIM policy. Practically only "renowned shots" and those returning to India on TR can bring in firearms. Unless you are willing to fight it out in High Court, it will be next to impossible for you to import .357 SIG or .40 S&W or any firearm for that matter. If you are interested to fight the restriction on the import of firearms, placed by EXIM policy in court, then do let the forum know. There is plenty of legal material available which may help.

Dear goodboy_mentor ,

Thanks a lot for your prompt and valuable reply. Can you also please let me know where I need to apply in Bangalore. "proof of residence" is not a issue for me in Bangalore also.

About the bore selection yes.... you are very much correct. But I really cannot trust on IOF products.... already I checked them....very poor finish too.

Also hate these Indian policy makes, IAS/IPS Babus.... Court will take my whole life to make desicion....money and time will go in vain....I am not sure what to do... again I am not ready to compromise with quality and safety.

Kalki,

After reading your post, if you dont want to go for IOF product , the only option left is 2nd Hand Imported one . Obviously you have to pay a very steep price for them. Even if you managed to get a .357 or .40SW there is no warranty that the ammo you are getting are fresh lot. So better be stick with very own .32. Buy the best what you can (Colt/Beretta/Smith & Wessons/Ruger/LLAMA,Mauser,Webley,Walther) Are much soughted and available time to time. Just make sure you are investing on good quality imported ammo for them , if your prime purpose is self defense. Even you can trust IOF guns but never trust KF ammo specially when it comes for Self Defense.

Just my two cents..

Hating anything is not going to change the situation, either accept the situation or fight the situation. There is no other choice.
