EXPIRED LICENSES

I HAVE A DOUBLE BARREL GUN WHOSE LICENSE HAS EXPIRED FOR MORE THAN A DECADE NOW, CAN I RENEW IT NOW, IF YES THEN WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE. IS IT A CRIME TO KEEP THE GUN WITH THE EXPIRED LICENSE

From what I know - Yes its a crime! Esp if its been 10 years since your license expired. I think you need to immediately surrender your weapon to a gunsmith for safe-keeping till such time your license is renewed. Seniors will be along presently with additional information/advice.

An aside - Please dont use ALL CAPS... its considered the online equivalent of shouting. :roll:

thanx kb, can u tell me what are the relevant provisions under which this issue is covered and what is the minimum/maximum punishment for it

kb100 is correct. Immediately go & deposit the firearm with a registered gun dealer and collect receipt for the same. Then write a request letter to your local licensing authority explaining the reasons for delay in renewing your license and requesting him/ her to renew the same with late fees.

Take the letter along with expired license, receipt of deposit with gun dealer and go the the licensing office. For such late renewal they may require you to meet the ACP/ SDM to explain reasons in person, if they think it's a genuine case they will usually mark it for renewal with late fees.

Individual experiences may differ based on the situation and/ or attitude of the officer(s) in your local jurisdiction.
