Skyman,
Please read again. I said "active shooter". Now nobody can be an active competition shooter without being member of any club. At least not to my knowledge.
And a person who had been actively participating in competitions at any level should be able to furnish certificates of participation and award to prove his point. This helps a lot.

Since I have not participated in competitions in ages I don't know if rules still allow 357 magnums to be used in 25 mt centre fire pistol matches. They could be used years ago although the standard ammo in 98 per cent cases used to be (and I believe still is) the .32 wadcutter.
If rules allows 357 to be used in matches and if a shooter can prove that he is an active competition shooter then I am sure he can pursue his case and get his quota increased. But I personally do not know such a shooter.

I referred to the .22 simply because its the most popular and common round used by target shooters. But in case of trap shooting the same theory will follow with 12 bore shells. I know of at least one trap shooting enthusiast in Bengal who has "unlimited" ammo quota and quite a few with "unlimited" quota for .22.

Hope that helps

But with a limited quota to start with, it's a bit of a bummer on your quest to become an active shooter yes? Your practice will be dictated by how much ammo the club lets you have....in effect, you are at their mercy.

So there is a fair chance a 12 gauge, .22 and .32 quotas can be increased if you are a shooter of some proficiency. The rest of the calibers...? Not unless they are used in competitions?

WRT shooting matches, will they increase your quota if you participate or should you win also?

Skyman,

I can't speak for all clubs in all states. Nor am I am active shooter anymore. But I believe most clubs encourage budding shooters and the talented ones among them are always taken care of. And please keep in mind most budding shooters are teenagers who do not have their own guns and have to depend on club weapons. And one really does not need 100 rounds every weekend (that's when most clubs in Bengal operate unless preparations are on for a big event) to start with.

Skyman, I have already said participation also helps. Not everyone can win every match.

And, let me share my experience. Lots of brand new guns and thousands of ammo to start with or to end with does not make a good shooter. You need good eyesight, a very calm mind and complete control over your emotions and body. If you have these you can start with five rounds a day. I know it all sounds like crap and some old man's tale but I cant help it. This is what I learned from a few good old men.

Oh no, i agree.I know a man who can out shoot most simply by virtue of mental focus and dry fire practice.

So, I've finally narrowed it down to two pistols

A Walther PP from Manurhin in .32 ACP, new in box with a spare mag, something like this pic http://www.warriors-wizards.com/picture ... 20_583.jpg

and A Walther PPK/s made in 2007 in .380 ACP, new in box with spare mag. The problem with this is that it's a TR weapon, so some palms probably got greased for this to be sold so early. Would this create an issue for me as a buyer?

Hi Kandarp,
Since you have decided not to listen to your wife (and your friends :( ) I want to say both are good weapons.
Personally I would have gone with the Manhurin. Why ? Its a great make... of all the Walther PPs and PPKs made outside Germany the Manhurins are said to be the best.
Moreover you are saying its news, in box and with a spare mag.

The PPK/S on the other hand is a good weapon too but ammo availability could be a problem at times. If I were so keen to get a TR weapon I would have got a gun dealer with clout to act in the middle and given him a commission.

Cheers

TC,

:) I'm sure my friends will understand, its the wife that I'm worried about.

The problem is that I'm getting them at exactly the same price. The PP was imported by a Foreign Services officer who has never used it and can sell it. The PPK belongs to someone who came back in 2008 on a TR. My only concern with the PPK is that since technically it's sale should not be permitted, would I run into trouble in the future. Say I have the use the weapon for Self Defense, will the cops/courts raise objection to the fact that this weapon was sold before its 10 years were up? (I know, I think too much)

I travel abroad (mostly to the US) quite often and the ammo should not be a problem.

Not keen on a TR weapon, in fact I'd like to avoid these if possible.

Regards,
Kandarp

PS. ROTFL . Yes, the ppk outguns the solitaire anyday!

Kandarp my friend even if ammo is not a problem I would have still avoided the PPK/S because of the legal angle.
The PP brought into the country by an IFS officer (whom I thank for keeping it in box ever since) is a safe weapon to possess and carry without that uncomfortable feeling. Age of this weapon is not something to consider because its brand new.
Lets hear what others have to say.

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather be happy with a PP that I know is legit than a PPK that ends up being a liability in the future.

Probably the reply in following link may help you get good "reason". Please read this http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 66#p174128

There is constitutional equality before law and value of life is constitutionally equal, whether VVIP or "ordinary" citizen. Why wouldn't ordinary citizen practice enough to have proficiency as good as NSG to to protect his life and life of his near and dear ones? Give a good to reason to justify this. Is his life less than equal as compared with VVIPS? Remember the burden to justify denial under Arms Act 1959 is on the State and not on the applicant since arms are fundamental right under Articles 19 and 21 of Constitution of India.

what we do not understand regarding a bodygurards etc is this simple point.

when one has a bodyguard then one has delegated someone else to safeguard them. responsibility of ones safty is with one.
