Re: Transfer of Residence for students...
Ok guys just came back from Bangalore last week. did my CRTC training in CAR HQ Bangalore. It was a great experience we had a nice time together. I also won the 1st place for 25 yards shooting competition got 94 out of 100. Now the next step is to put in a PTA for a gun and buy one. I am confused which one to buy. I was thinking of a .38 super 1911 with a .22lr conversion kit and now other things are running in my mind like a glock, sig p226. I am confused which caliber to get also because i know its hard to find ammo in India. What do you guys think???

Suraj, the type of weapon that you wish to import depends on the need of your weapon. Is that for SD or for sports. If you want for Target practice a weapon in .22 lr from ruger, high standard, smith and wesson etc can be consider.all these have good Target pistols eventhough they are not competition grade. As you know ammo is cheap if you opt .22 lr.For SD you can opt for your personal preference. My opinion is pick up a .22 lr and shoot ...shoot till you get tired.

Getting a .22 LR conversion kit for whatever handgun you decide to bring in is a great idea.
A 1911 in 38 Super? .38 Super ammo will be hard to find anywhere and especially so in India.
A SIG P226 comes in 9mm, .40 S&W or .357 SIG. .357 SIG will be harder to find than hen's teeth and you will most likely not be allowed to possess a 9mm. .40 S&W will not be available at every dealer (if any).
A Glock will have similar problems as above.

.38 Super ammo will almost be next to impossible to source in India unless you travel abroad frequently and bring it back with you. Also, factor in the difficulty to convince your local licensing authorities that the .38 super is not a PB. The same applies to .40 too but there is no problem of registering it as an NPB.
The .22 spare conversion kit is a good idea.

Hi thanks for the reply guys. I thought of a pistol only because of the .22lr conversion. I dont want to get only a .22lr because i want a more powerful pistol. I was thinking of a nighthawk grp with the convertor its a great gun but i will have to empty my pockets completely just for gun so though of glock with the convertor...

Re: Transfer of Residence for students...
Well today i was trying out a glock 17 and asking my club captain which one i should go for... He was saying glock is not a great target pistol and it will take lot of time to shoot well with it and its much easier to shoot 1911 style pistol more accurately... But i like the glock too its a great pistol and yes i do like the looks of it. It has started to grow on me...lol...hahaha...Recently they have got in a smith & wesson M&P i want to try it too. It looks and feels great can anybody give me some feed back on the M&P... In my club they were saying that its 1000 times better than glock...
After thinking about the ammo problem in India. I feel its pointless to get guns for which ammo is not available. I will have to just get it and keep it as a display piece. A .22lr gun would be more sensible to get than any other gun but i want to get a high power gun... Has anyone tried the conversion kit on a glock is it good for target shooting...

Re: Transfer of Residence for students...
Thank you Abhijeet and Vikram. Just an update i have reached bangalore back safely with my firearm and i have declared it to the bangalore airport customs and i have got a detained receipt for it they were friendly and i had no issues only think is that when doing this lot of work, time and money needs to be spend. Now the final step is to get my firearms license in bangalore now. I am not sure of customs duty or the storage charges and i did not ask them about it. But i told them i will be collecting it with in 2 months but they asked why 2 months i told them about the elections and license process time. Will keep you guys updated and i will write down a detailed post after i get my hands on my firearm...
Thank you,

At farook
Actually different airlines operate differently so its better to see which airlines suites your need and location. From my location Sydney Singapore airlines is the best for these stuff because you only need to inform them a few weeks early thats all they dont charge anything buy for long guns i think they may charge if they are oversize and above 5kgs. But different airlines like qantas charge money for everything and you need to fill forms and all. The airlines told me that India used to charge money around $25 even if an aircraft fly over indian airspace with firearms... You should inform then before because for transit through singapore from one flight to another flight the firearm must be done with a police escort if not you will not land in to trouble. The thing is that there is high chance of screwing up in any stage of this TR process so be 100% sure and well prepared with backup plans or else you will only land into trouble...

The positive attitude because if you know what to speak and how to speak using the right terms then they will get the point that we are aware of the law and we are following them so they will give a positive response... But its better to have copies of legal documents showing your claims just incase if the office in charge is new or not aware of this...farook wrote:A very positive attitude I must say....BTW Suraj did the airline charge any special package charges...surajshuresh wrote: they were friendly and i had no issues............ i told them i will be collecting it with in 2 months but they asked why 2 months i told them about the elections and license process time.

Re: Transfer of Residence for students...
Hello friends happy to announce that my TR is a big success but with a lot hurdles many known hurdles and many unknown hurdles just comes out the blue and makes a complicated thing more complicated. The last two years was not easy and this is was one of the most painstaking task that i have done until now in my life to say. Me being a person who never gives up anything until succeed helped me to this along with many of friends here like tenx,avi88,farook etc who helped me a lot not to forget my dad without whose influence i would have not even got a license.
A big thanks to all of you guys...
