Alright, we've read everything but still didn't find answer to a simple question: If a person in India (or to be more specific, in WB) wants to buy a Colt .357 Magnum Python, what are the penalties he needs to go through?

You cant import period,if anyone does import against the rules that fire arm is confiscated by the Customs & then at some point it is alloted to an MP by the Min of Fin.You could also look at spending some time in the cooler, you surely dont want to do that.

Rottlord
Most of the imported fire arms available today in the market are the ones that were imported prior to 1986,the year imports were banned.
Post 86,one could import fire arm’s only on a TR re Tranfer of Residence, and some who did import via this route till the mid 90’s did sell. The TR rule has since changed and now even if a person returning on TR brings in a fire arm he or she cannot sell it.

RottLord, if you take the time to read this entire thread along with the attached KB article you will find the answers to both questions...

You can realise your dream of owning a 357 for anywhere between 8 to 10 L,there is one being sold by a member, since you claim to have had multiple attempts on your life, the price in your case might just be worth it

Well, 8 to 10 lakhs is next to impossible for me. But why does a mere 1K gun reaches that extremity once it reaches the Indian soils?

Because imports are banned. Price is determined by demand & supply. Increased demand combined with almost zero fresh supply = price tending towards infinity....
