Update : An advocate informed that getting reports from tahseel etc costs somewhere about 10k.
So this is what takes place -
An ignorant citizen applies for arms licence ,the file is sent to police for verification and to lekhpal for verification. So two routes where money will be required in order for the file to travel to CO and DM.
Final authority is DM and they have been granting licenses to kith n kin in the past as gift.
Not Surprisingly most of the handgun licenses are with people who know someone in administration or are themselves in administration, judiciery or police.

Hi eternalme, I am just curious, under what category did you apply for the license - sports/self defence? Are you a member of any shooting club?
I am also planning to apply for a license in the near future...

I reluctantly spent RS. 100/= to expedite obtaining my first fire arm license (All India) in 1969 Dec. and finally received it in 1970 Jan.
