Nagarifle, there is no documentation as such. Its all in the Chapter 93. For example, 9304 10 00- Import of muzzle loading firearms. (blank guns)
Just giving an example, I am not a blank guns fan.
In the chapter 93 notification, it states that its FREE to import blank firing guns, signal flare pistols...but where my personal import experience is concerned, let be any gun, especially in case of replicas, blank firers and airsoft (air gun import rules are different)- the examiner, and the assistant commissioner of customs, they both asked for a police noc. Its not mentioned in any rule book, but its mandatory. Try importing one, and once it gets detained, you'll be asked to present to them with the doc.
Thanks,
N

Rajiv,
You dont need any licence or permit for airsoft toys. Its just that they are exact replicas of the real firearms. Someone can scare a shit out of anyone if flashed. Bcuz they look realistic. When I ordered my air pistol, the examiner looked at it and she said, "Is it real?" LOL
Not her fault because they look real, they are licenced realicas with Colt and Beretta logos on them. They all work on paperwork, bro. Give them the noc, and believe me they will clear your gun without any hassle. They are not bad people. So, if you're ready to spend around 3 to 4k on noc, order a real nice pistol or rifle, like m14 or something.
Cheers,
N.
