Blank Firing Guns
Re: Anyone knows about Blank Firing Guns ?
As far as I know there are no restrictions at all on blank firing guns and I have seen several used by the film industry in Chennai. One of my family's business outlets was in Vijaya Hospital, itself located in the now defunct Vijaya Vauhini studios. These guns used to be sold at Kasi Chetty Street as well as at Burma Bazaar, both markets where smuggled goods were sold in the socialist days and I have seen all sorts of guns including blank firing AK 47s, pistols of different kinds etc. Like Grumpy I consider these castrated guns and was never fascinated with them. If someone wants them, they need to check with someone in the film industry and they would get them quite easily. IIRC even Chennai customs used to sell them at their regular auctions on occasion in the past, mainly to contractors who would then rent them on a per shift basis to the film guys.

Actually avoid it, buy a realistic cap gun if you can find it.
Some cap guns used to have real revolver type of swing out cylinders. That way at least it will be a toy gun in the toy category.

Many are available for sale here with dealers. They apparently give some sort of a police certificate to state that this is not a firearm and does not need a license
However they are supremely expensive, starting around 50,000/- and the ammo is more expensive than the real ones too; last I heard it was rs 125/- per round of .32

Re: Blank Firing Guns
This is to all you present gun owners. I think we all are gun-lovers but the system we are in doesn't allow all of us to be PROUD. What do you think, had there been a scope to own a S&W .50 ACP, we, the replica gun owner wannabes would have settled for anything else but the real one? The answer is NO. But it's the sound, the flash and the fumes we die for and at least, the person to whom firing is a passion, a replica gun, I believe is the safest option. So pls stop the quarrel and let's help each other to reinforce the BROTHERHOOD of MEN. Lest you fall, there shall always be someone to stand up from behind. A blank firing gun owner shall know atleast how to pull the trigger of a real gun when a grave situation needs to be dealt with; it's better than knowing how to use it as a hammer. PERIOD.

Re: Blank Firing Guns
Ok, folks; I found that Indian Customs Act - Chap. 93.3 mentions no taxes to be paid on:
Other firearms and similar devices which operate by the firing of an explosive charge (for example, sporting shotguns and rifles, muzzle-loading firearms, very (should that be heavy?)pistols and other devices designed to project only signal flares, pistols and revolvers for firing blank ammunition, captive-bolt humane killers, line-throwing guns.
Does that mean blank firing guns are legal? And if it's so, then why do the Customs Dept. pose a bar on procuring them?

Have you tried applying for an arms license? The reason I ask is blank firing guns sell in India for prices close to what you would pay for an IOF made revolver and the ammo is pricey as well as difficult to find... don't for a moment take the overseas online prices as any kind of indicator of what these things will cost here!RottLord";p="46744 wrote: This is to all you present gun owners. Rott,
Buying imported Blank is a hard job you need to shell a lot as import for these is restricted. If you are able to get one Ammo will still be an issue. If you can, better apply for an arms licence.
I myself tried to find but no use, I now own 2 air rifles to keep my passion for shooting on. If you are in WB - Kolkatta is the city where you can find a lot of options try it and let us know.
