Hi Guys,
Thanks for the great website, it is such a headache trying to get info from the customs officials in India, I don;t know how you guys cope. It must be very frustrating for you.
I used to hunt in the U.K but the law in Thailand is very strict for foreigners, I have no right to own a gun and hunting is illegal here. The last time I shot an animal was in Ozzy, I got a red kangaroo, a big buck about 6'5"
I am writing you guys for some help and advice, I see you are def the most knowledgeable people in the country regarding firearms and related issues. So here goes;
I am coming to India next month for a sea fishing and spearfishing holiday in the Andaman Islands and possibly mainland India, I would like to know if Spearfishing equipment is ok to bring into the country? It is fine in most other countries, other than singapore and Malaysia, but what about india. www.speargun.com will give you an idea of what I'm talking about. Are there any Spearos on here that live in India?
Thanks for the help, I have tried calling, faxing and emailing 3 or 4 custom agencies but not a single reply.
Take it easy,
Siam

Re: spearfishing in India??? Need help
One of my cousins was detained by the customs for a couple of hours for bringing in a snowboard.Bringing in a spear gun would be interesting.How the fellows at the customs treat it would vary upon the person on duty.I would not be surprised if he just waves it through.Any other out come again would not surprise me.Try the people here and see if they can help you

Re: spearfishing in India??? Need help
Thanks for the link man, I have been to the embassy and got my visa, but everyone says just see what happens and no-one will give me an answer. My gear is worth thousands of $$, if they wont let it in then I'll have to fly back home, cheaper loose the flight than loose my gear
Hope someone on here will be able to help out.
Even the numbers on the internet for customs in Chennai and Calcutta are wrong!
It sounds like if its the first time they see something they will give a real good seeing to, like your mates snowboard!
Happy hunting

Strap operated spear guns are ok in India, you can't use powered ones which uses gas.
the line throwers are ok as well and don't require a license.
