TenX thanks a lot for the referrals and I got my application form signed way back. However, Mr. Krishna has now said that KSRA is NOT accepting any new membership applications for at least six months ( roughly the time by which hopefully the work of rennovating the range would be over). So apparently I have to wait for six months for submitting the application form itself. This now brings me to a pertinent question. Could the experts/Gurus please answer:
1) Can a person having a valid licence use his Revolver/Pistol for practice purposes anywhere in the area for which he hold license instead of a shooting range, provided he takes adequate precautions not to hurt/harm any living thing or cause damage to any object?
2) Is there any specific rule which bars a person from using his revolver/pistol except for self defence in areas other than the shooting range?
3) If the shooting range is closed for renovation/for people who have a valid licence but not a member of the shooting range, is there an option to use the Police Shooting range on payment basis? What would be the procedure in case it is allowed?
Thanks in advance

Usage of a licensed weapon for practice purpose
I am in Bangalore and have obtained a weapon after taking a valid license but am not sure whether I can use it any place other than a shooting range for practice purposes. KSRA is not allowing any membership for the next six months. I have finished my Civilian Rifle Training Course but have not yet used my weapon for practice shooting. The following queries are specifically regarding the situation in India, especially Bangalore.
1) Is the licensed weapon holder prohibited under law from using the licensed weapon for other than self-defense purposes in the licensed area? will he be violating any police ban on this aspect?
2) In case the licensed weapon holder can use the fire arm in the licensed area for purposes like practice is it restricted to only shooting ranges or can he use the weapon in areas taking adequate precaution not to harm any living thing/damage any object/property?
3) Do the police authorities permit civilians to use the police shooting range? If so what is the procedure to be adopted?
4) Do we have to account for the spent bullets and collect the empty cases considering that there is a ceiling on the number of bullets that a licensed holder can purchase in a year?
5) Can anyone in Bangalore give bangalore specific answers to the above questions? or is the situation the same all over India?
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Re: Usage of a licensed weapon for practice purpose
Hi Antismuggler!
I'm not a guru or anything of that sort, but as far as I know, there is no restrictions for using your weapon other than for self defence within the area of judisdiction under which your license falls, but it is definitely a good idea to do so in a descreet and safe manner. I mean, I knew a few people who used to target practice in their farms and estates where no one questions them.
As far as using the Police Department's premises for target practice, I don't think they are allowing it except for training purposes. Im not totally clear on that, but I guess finding it out from them would be the best way.
I'm from Bangalore as well, but I'm curious to know if you've got your license for self protection or for sports? I recollect someone in this forum saying that his license for self protection is endorsed with only 15 or 25 rounds per year. If this is so in your case too, then it would not be advisable to use them for target practice unless you have some other means to procure more ammo
And please post in photos of your new possesion and some info about how you got your hands on it
