REMOVING CURIOS FROM GUN LICENSE
Arms Amendment Rules 2020 states that weapons over 50 years old can be held without License.
If we have three weapons on our license and one or more of those can be classified as CURIOS, then what is the procedure to have those weapons classified as CURIOS and get them removed from the License?
In spite of contacting local licensing authority numerous times no satisfactory clarification was forthcoming.
Even tried to ELICIT a reply from MOH through PMOPG, but their reply was ' point noted, will be taken up when amendments to Arms Act are discussed'
Will be grateful if someone has a clarification on this issue.

Re: REMOVING CURIOS FROM GUN LICENSE
The rule is pretty much straightforward and I see no potential for discussion. If you can prove your weapons were manufactured 50 years prior to today, then they, as per law, do not require a license for possession provided they don't fall under restricted firearms category. What exactly did the licensing authority say?

Curio is for weapons above 100 years old and not 50. Correct me if I am wrong.

This 2016 notification is old. It was amended in notification dated 12/2/2020 to hundred years from fifty years. Read point no. 2 (i)

I thought Curio & Antique weapons are different? Point 3 for antique & point 17 (of rule 2) for curio according to arms act of 2016.

Re: REMOVING CURIOS FROM GUN LICENSE
The 2020 amendment changes the definition of "antiques" which is defined under rule 2 (definitions) sub-rule 3. Curios are defined under rule 2, sub-rule 17.

Don't think it will be so easy to convince the licensing authority and get the weapon classified as curio for it to bepartheus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 29, 2021 5:30 pmThe rule is pretty much straightforward and I see no potential for discussion. If you don't apply, you won't get any relief...
My father has applied for his curio to be deleted, will update on the progress.
Meanwhile, others are advised to apply and start the process. It's not going to happen overnight, this is India after all.

Re: REMOVING CURIOS FROM GUN LICENSE
if a weapon has been in the family for 50/60 years then on the basis of earlier licences, age could be estimated, also the serial no of the weapon could help in determining age
